Pope questions Trump's Christianity

The Pope has questioned US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's Christianity over his call to build a border wall with Mexico.

Pope Francis said "a person who thinks only about building walls... and not of building bridges, is not Christian".

The New York businessman supports deporting nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants.

Calling himself a "proud Christian", Mr Trump blamed Mexico for the Pope's remarks, calling them "disgraceful".

Mr Trump has alleged that Mexico sends "rapists" and criminals to the US.

Pope Francis made the comments at the end of a trip to Mexico.

"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not of building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the gospel," he said.

Thoughts?

I personally agree with the Pope that Trump probably isn't Christian, but for different reasons, y'know, like his three divorces, boasting of his sexual conquests, the casinos, all that good stuff.

But, seriously, building walls, not building bridges, that hardly disqualifies you from being a Christian. Every country needs strong borders, and some people make that a central campaign pledge, and that's not a big deal.

I don't know why people give Trump the time of day. I think he should just be honest. Any Christian that's trying to live right knows when they see a fake. It's not that people can't make mistakes as Christians, it's just I can tell when someones just trying to get votes. Honestly, the fact that Evangelical "Christians" are supporting Trump in mass numbers tells me something about American "Christians".

I see a broad variety of interpretation among Xians.
Which ones are true & which are false?
I don't know.

You have to read the Bible for yourself. And don't be afraid to read the context of verses when they are quoted.
Even if I did, interpreting it appears so personal that I still wouldn't be able to judge others as true or untrue Xians.
I just accept that anyone who claims to be actually is.
I've suffered no adverse consequences yet.

I don't think many evangelicals genuinely believe Trump is a Christian, they support him for his straight-talking policies and boldness to say things which aren't politically correct, and a man who self-funds himself and thereby claims to not owe anyone anything.

I bet if he said that he was an atheist tomorrow his numbers would drop.

The Pope is more constrained by his Catholic theology, & interprets it to favor more authoritarian government with his anti-capitalist ways.
Trump is no libertarian, but he strikes me as closer.
While a Christian candidate quite likely will naturally resonate with me more if he seems genuine, when it comes to politics it's not really that important to me either.
It's just a religion.
I look at the agenda a candidate would likely effect.

While I reckon we could stop mistaking bigotry and demagoguery for straight talking there is maybe something to be said for electing a man so vain (and rich) he'll bend over for no-one. I can half imagine Trump's ego pushing him to leave a greater legacy than other candidates though I can fully imagine him melting down completely and leaving a legacy no other candidate would want...
