There needs to be a "none of the above" option.

Can't have this list without the Queen of Bad Singers, Florence Foster Jenkins. She went from a one-time musical child prodigy to tone-deaf (she developed severe tinnitus after contracting syphilis from her cheating husband and damage to her hand, ending her hopes of being a concert pianist).

By all accounts, she was a lovely person with a heart of gold and a philanthropist. So even though she couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, people loved her performances because she had spirit. Meryl Streep did a great job portraying her in the movie Florence Foster Jenkins.

"People may say I can't sing, but no one can ever say I didn't sing." - Florence Foster Jenkins

    Everyone's reply: You go, girl.

The ensemble is always amusing. I didn't realize they were all him in the Misty Mountain video the first few times I watched it.

That was my first time on that particular video, but since I have seen a few others of his I was aware of the drill. He also has a couple of videos on how to sing low.

I've been meaning to look at those. I don't have a super deep voice, but to be able to round out those deeper notes would be cool.

Possibly the worse song by people who can sing. (A titan size Jimmy Barnes superimposed on the horizon and screaming his head off makes it for me.)

(Btw, I voted for Slim but I'll use any excuse to post Jimmy Barnes screaming.LOL)

I can't put my finger on it but they seem to have plagiarised a TISM song.

In India, we think that Ustad Bade (Elder) Ghulam Ali Khan was the greatest male singer of all times.
.. and Lata Mangeshkar was the greatest female singer of all times.
    (Both here in the image).

The only song that he sang for a film (Mughal-e-Azam) at a then-astronomical fee of Rs. 25,000 in 1960 when other top singers were getting less than Rs. 500.
The producer wanted a song from him at whatever fee he demanded. Khan Saheb mentioned this amount, thinking that the producer would back out. But, no, the producer readily accepted the deal and Khan Saheb had to sing the song.

There's no answer to that. But if I may offer a few opinions ...

For bassos, listen to the ancient recordings of Chaliapin and realize why he's still a name. His death scene in Boris Godunov is magnificent, remains the touchstone.

For baritones, Olaf Bär (younger or older, but he had a flat period around 30) is my pick for Schubert if you want a fine, truly satisfying Winterreise or Schöne Müllerin or any of the songs.

For tenors, young Pavarotti with Joan Sutherland will do any of the traditional opera repertoire you like. Old Paverotti, not to mention the Three Tenors, is just froth by comparison. A better class of froth, no doubt, but ...

I can't instantly recall the name of the German countertenor who's impressed me most. Never mind.

For jazz, ol' Blue Eyes doing 'One for my baby and one more for the road' springs to mind.
