Guns will always be around whether legal or illegal.
A gun in the wrong hands is deadly, however a gun in the right hands save lives.
So don't make it legal for the wrong hands (ie non-police and non-military) to have them.

That is the most effective means of keeping them out of the wrong hands as then only people with specialised knowledge can produce them (a rarity) which makes them cost prohibitive and difficult to obtain without special connections for the wrong hands.

In my opinion.

So you basically want to punish/deny everyone because of a few.

I think you want to punish everyone with mass shootings because of a few responsible people who could join the police force/military if that is their calling.

In my opinion.

Make guns illegal there will still be plenty of illegal guns in the wrong hands.
My evidence.. The war on drugs that makes those drugs illegal. How has that worked out in the last 50 years?

You are not looking at the statistics in places such as Australia were guns have already been made illegal for most civilians and gun deaths have been cut in half and remained that way for 25 years.

You are also overlooking that drugs are easily privately manufactured and are addictive substances. Guns are neither.

In my opinion.

Do you want to compare illegal drug deaths to deaths by legal guns.
Both the drug dealer and the shooter knows what they are doing well result in the death of people,,, they don't care.

And if China or Russia attacked Australia, you all would be begging the US to "send us guns, arm our people so we can fight back, etc".

We in the US don't worry about that.

We have a professional army which is more than enough to deter a Russian invading force (not a nuclear attack but what good do guns do in a nuclear launch?).

As for China they have enough people in their country that they would probably defeat us in an invasion, but at the expense of having Australian coal and uranium supply cut until they could successfully commandeer it which would probably cause them enough casualties and unrest back home to make war unfeasible for them anyway.

In my opinion.

We just worry about arming teachers so our kids don't get shot.

You are not going to get rid of guns whether legal or illegal.
Schools seem to be a top choice of shooters because in my opinion kids and unarmed people/teachers.
If teachers want to participate and train to carry, whats the harm?

Besides, we could ramp up civilian supply if China were interested in going to war with us anyway, so how does that justify the sacrifice of our children during peacetime?

In my opinion.

I've read some pieces about China's army.
It's big, but generally low quality. If they invaded
Ameristan, things would go poorly for them.
They'd be fully aware of this, so it's no threat.
Unless....
If they played Chinese opera on loudspeakers,
we'd be in trouble.
