Gotta have some fun while generating some interest in Elizabeth Warren's apparent
bid to out-socialist the socialist Brernie in her bid for the 2020 presidential race.

In the news....
Elizabeth Warren unveils bold new plan to reshape American capitalism
.... the Massachusetts senator tipped as a Democratic presidential candidate in 2020, has unveiled new plans for legislation aimed at reining in big corporations, redistributing wealth, and giving workers and local communities a bigger say.

Warren will introduce the bill dubbed the Accountable Capitalism Act on Wednesday. The proposal aims to alter a model she says has caused corporations to chase profits for shareholders to the detriment of workers.

Under the legislation, corporations with more than $1bn in annual revenue would be required to obtain a corporate charter from the federal government – and the document would mandate that companies not just consider the financial interests of shareholders.

Instead, businesses would have to consider all major corporate stakeholders – which could include workers, customers, and the cities and towns where those corporations operate.

Her proposal is a true socialist vector, putting control of much of the means of
production in the hands of government, communities & workers. If it came to
pass, I'd wager that many companies would limit their revenue to just under $1B.

Adam Smith was a big fan of regulation, and said that capitalism as a system needs limits. This isn't the end of the world.
Of course, many countries with dysfunctional systems survive, as does the rest of the world.
Venezuela, Cuba, N Korea.....they're all survivors, hunger & oppression notwithstanding.
We should consider the pluses & minuses of any proposed change.

I'm laughing so hard my sides are aching .

It's not that the idea sounds bad in principle, but it's due to the fact that corporations don't pay out for these kind of things.

We do whenever we shop for their products or services.

Too bad she just couldnt encourage profit-sharing incentives or something like that. But she's a Democrat what do you expect!?

You must be worried about her, calling her names and wishing she was British.
Trouble is the Dems are too right wing to go with her.
I don't worry about politics.
And I think her aggressive socialist stance would fail, even if she were elected.
But her pro-Israel hawkish bent strikes me as dangerous, even now, what with
Trump kowtowing to Israel, & shaking a spear at Iran. As a senator, she could
enable yet another wrongful war.

Btw, I love the nickname.

I had no idea that you're a "capitalist".
Good for you!
(I thought you loathed the stuff.)

I'm not to sure, it has the sound of a racial slur and since the bloke who first started it was Trump, it probably is.
Racial?
Warren claims to be Amerindian.
The claim looks false.
The nickname mocks this.
Pretty funny.
Trying to make it out to be racism.....how weak.

Great news, I am in favor of this.

Fie! Fie!
A pox on you & yours!

There, that should raise the level of political discourse.

Question....
Do you anticipate any unanticipated consequences?
I know this sounds contradictory, but you know what I mean.

Beat me to it. This, or splitting into separate companies.

I wish she were British too.

She may very well be. I understand she's blessed with a flexible genealogy.

When the financial disparity is what it is now, something needs to change. Sorry/not sorry but the time has come to address it.
I say the better way is to improve the social safety net,
eg, single payer health care, lowering taxes.

Why? What possible good can come from more government control? The present booming economy should indicate the benefits of less government interference.
Government knows what's best, just look at Venez.....never mind.

I don't like the idea of the top 3% holding 99% of the countries wealth. I want money out of politics. I want oligopolies to cease to exist. The game is rigged to the very wealthy and it is time for a change.
