Plan for opening soup kitchen for poor in my hometown.

Spirit of Light

I have together with the local government in my hometown started the plan for a soup kitchen for poor people. This is something i heard people speak about for a few years now, that the homeless and poor people have asked for somewhere they can go to especially in the winter to get a hot meal. So in discussion with the local governments i have now a plan to make it possible before winter sets in.

And yes the Corona situation has made it somewhat more difficult to get all the paperwork done. But it looking promising.

It will be started as an volunteer organization, and hopfully i can get one or two people to help me to give the food to those in need.

Well done Amanaki....you are such a kind soul....this is not surprising. Homelessness is a growing problem in many countries. It robs them of their dignity and often their sanity. Supplying a hot meal especially in the winter will help, but shelter from the cold is also important. In Australia, we can donate money towards a swag so that homeless people can have a warm bed out of the elements. It’s a hard life for many, often through no fault of their own.

Are governments really doing enough to address this terrible situation? :(

I know a guy who runs a soup kitchen

He gets donations of food to use as ingredients from local businesses, very generous donations

It might be worth you approaching local businesses and asking for donations?

Would this soup kitchen be open every day? Or only on certain days? Or only on one day per week?

At the moment government in Norway is not doing enough to help poor and people who are addicted to drugs. So we as citizens has to step up and do our best to help those in need.

But in my plan i wanted the local government to help out so a system can be put in place for those who come after me, the system is very difficult today. I would have to rent a space for a foodtruck and i will need permites from food and healthcare to get correct certification. It's a lot to do Even before a cup of soup get delivered :)

My currect plan is to have open every day, because nobody here do that now, but poor people do need food every day.

And no i do not know someone with a foodtruck now, i have to rent or but one first. But local governments i am in contact with will help me get started.

Your post is utterly inadequate.
I need to know what kinds of soup you'll have.

And what are the rules?

Yes the red tape can be a nightmare. In Australia you have to have a commercial kitchen to cook and dispense food to people. Forget the these ones eat out of garbage cans.....Sometimes it’s enough to make some sandwiches and coffee and just give them away to anyone you see who need them. I know the homeless appreciate anything from a generous stranger.

The menu is not yet produced :) but in the med ting with the local governments we spøke about 2 or 3 different soups as a beginning.
But i dont think poor people would think to much about how many soups they can choose from :) they only need something to keep them warm and alive in their current situation:)

Be careful here. RF rules probibit advocating acts which are illegal
in Californiastan. Handing out food to the homeless is a crime there.
About a dozen people arrested for feeding the homeless in El Cajon park

I recommend beef barley, kimchi tofu, & west lake soups.
But not mint cilantro.

It's a great idea.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Alas, with the current popularity of neoliberal economics, governments have been slashing social programs, and are reluctant to fund anything that's not going to turn a profit.
That would be socialism, after all.

Not socialism.
Homeless are not the means of production.
Neither is feeding them soup.
So.....no posts for you!

It looks like i will get some help from different organizations:)
Norwegian salvationarmy
Norwegian humanistic association
doctors Without Borders
Norwegian church

To call asking about what they think of the idea of soupkitchen does look like help, they even ask when they can donated money to this cause :) so now i have to open a bank account and registrate an organizations my self too :)

poor people do need food every day.

The White Pony Express that I've volunteered at in the past and hope to do so again when I'm cleared by my doctor delivers food every day for that reason.

This is a time when all who have 'eyes to see' are called on to help those in need. I applaud your heart being in the right place and wish you have every success.
