You all knew it was coming, there's no way I can get off the spamming spree. Today, we are going to take a look to very important sphere of Confucianism, the Korean one. Take a little history recap:
Republic of Korea (South Korea, my official Favorite Obsession Target of Love country) has the second largest quantity of Confucian shrines, after China, and, it served as state religion and ideology during the famous Joseon dynasty, after the fall of preceding Goryeo dynasty. Korean authorities ordered these Confucian shrines to be established throughout the kingdom. Confucianism rose to be one of the universal characteristics defining the Post Three Kingdoms era, while Buddhism more clearly defines Three Kingdoms era.
The Confucian shrines, called Seowon in Korean, also provided education for the high Yangban class and thus doubled as universities. With Japanese occupation, modernization and ultimately Christianization, they no longer serve their original glory :/
