PETA is calling on Punxsutawney Phil to retire and be replaced with an AI groundhog

Those poor little snowflakes.
That darn ground is probably treated better than some people.

The robots are coming for Punxsutawney Phil's job, too.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is calling on the keepers of the weather-forecasting groundhog to let him retire -- and to be replaced by an animatronic groundhog.

PETA wrote in a letter to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club on Monday that it was time for the beloved tradition to change.

Every February 2, Phil gets dragged out of his hole and held up to flashing lights and crowds in what is a highly stressful experience for him, PETA said. And his current accommodations don't allow him to dig, burrow or forage like non-famous groundhogs naturally do.

But they have got what they want ...
  • A reaction from 'the other side'
  • Publicity

So PETA wins

I totally misread your title. I thought you said 'Al (capital A, small L) the groundhog. I thought to meself, "What did they have against the name 'Phil'..."?

Did they eat Phil? Mistreat him? I don't think so and it probably isn't the original Phil anymore :D. We want natural and continue it to be a natural forecast.

And does PETA describe what an AI groundhog is ?

Groundhog Day is just a circus for idiots, anyway. If we can't stop humiliating ourselves with it, we should at least stop humiliating the poor groundhog.

Yep, sometimes PETA is a master of clickbait. It is a win for them since they get their message out there, even if there is a bit of lunacy associated with it.

Exactly! IMO it's that way with most every group.
Christian groups
Atheist groups
Rightwing groups
Leftwing groupd
LBGT groups
Hate groups
Etc, etc, etc.

Any publicity, good or bad, is better than no publicity.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

They better be careful , it will go the way of those stupid irritating and moronic liberty commercials.
