Parler is shut down completely

Parler have been around for a while, and if you look around on conservative sites, you find that it is are mentioned often.

Fundamentally it is a Twitter clone without the opinion censorship of Twitter. There is a constant debate among conservatives if they should leave the leftist echo chamber that Twitter has become and move completely to Parler. The counter-argument is that then Parler would become a conservative echo-chamber, and then what? No communication between the two tribes.

Please note that Amazon, Google, and Twitter had no problem with Parler until the moment the all together decided to muzzle Trump. Amazing how great minds think alike.
Gee, do you think that had something to do with people using it to plan an insurrection against the US government and to execute members of Congress? Do you think they want to be held liable for that?

Sorry, but you're not allowed to incite violence.

I have heard of Parler before this thread.
As well as Gab and Voat and Thinkspot...

I'm just waiting to see which one is next in needing to change their name to "Evidence"...

Gab is an outlier. They are extremely free speech to the point where they allow rapid neonazis to spout extremely offensive stuff, as long as it is barely legal. (I have been argueing there for a long time that they should filter, but make it optional, not secret like Twitter so that I can check what is being filtered). They have been under constant assault, but have bought their own servers so seem safe for the time being.

Thinkspot is a different thing. It is Jordan Petersons site, very intellectual, long-form, deep thought, and moderated. Not an environment that the low-information crowd of either side would find inviting.

Never heard of "Voat", will check them.

Then there is "Locals", set up by Dave Rubin, and from what I hear set up very robustly in anticipation of a Big Tech assault on them. The content creators who use it seem happy with it, but it also subscription based, again not inviting for the rabble rousing crowd and fake propaganda bots.

I have not seen any proof that it was "used by people using it to plan an insurrection against the US government and to execute members of Congress", and I very very much doubt that anyone planing an insurrection against the US government and to execute members of Congress would do so on a public platform.
Does that make any sense to you, seriously?

Seems stupid, right?
Well, they did it. On several public platforms.
Why do you think it was shut down in the first place, along with Trump's Twitter and Facebook accounts (among others)?

"Google said it acted because of “continued posting in the Parler app that seeks to incite ongoing violence in the U.S.,” which violated its requirements for sufficient moderation of egregious content for apps it distributes. A company representative said Parler would remain suspended until it addressed the issues “in light of this ongoing and urgent public safety threat.”

And still, their chatter was barely taken seriously by Washington D.C. police and security.
Until .... it came to fruition on the 6th.

...Was it really that bad that all the vendors had to cancel Parler the social media site, to the point that it was forced to shut down..?

What was so bad about it?

Parler CEO announces their entire system has been shut down, no vendors will touch them, and that will be offline for the foreseeable future.
Parler CEO says the service will be down 'longer than expected'

It is fear IMO. It is also a very overt manifestation of trying to shut down freedom of speech.

Don't break a TOS agreement and you won't get shut down. Parler was shut down specifically because they ignored incitement to violence happening on their platform. So their sponsors were pulled. The same would happen here.

I feel like it should be obvious but in addition to this, free speech does not mean conspiracy to murder is okay.

These have been posted several times already, although I'm sure you'll deny/deflect them.

And you would think it was stupid but we're talking about people swallowed up in so much conspiracy bull**** that using a mask to conceal their identity while committing a crime was supplanted by 'they might think I think coronavirus is real.'
These are also the same people who think the left is involved in a secret pedophile Satan worshipping cult.

Because it is a coordinated attempt by the big tech cartel to squash popular dissent?
Remember, i pointed out that it is not just Trump. They have been on a virtual censorship and deplatforming binge since last week.
And of course, any free speech alternative is not welcome.

"Google said

So you believe everything that Google says at face value? Surely, you have seen the project veritas videos where Pichard and and other Google exectives promise that they will not allow 2014 (Trumps victory) to happen again. They have been massivley putting their thumbs on the scales since then.

And still, their chatter was barely taken seriously by Washington D.C. police and security.

I understand there are about 3000 police guarding just that building, Are you sure they could not protected it from a couple of unarmed (great strategy for an insurrection by the way) rioters?

'No change without bloodshed': Parler users call for violence during riots

I went to the article, but saw only claims, no screenshots. I am aware that Gab is constantly complaining about fake accounts being set up for the sole purpose of discrediting the site, I assume Parler has the same problem.

OK, I agree that those 2 would violate Parlers service. Do you know when they were posted and how time Parler had to react?

I do not know what you mean. I agree that Antifa has something to teach the Trump rioters: If you want to vandalize a building, better mask up and conceal yourself. Instead of taking selfies with buffalo hats.

These are also the same people who think the left is involved in a secret pedophile Satan worshipping cult.

Yeah, and there also leftists who think that Trump is ruthless dictator, and then celebrate that the ruthless dictator lets himself be kicked off Twitter. There are always low IQ types on all sides.

Over a month for some of these. This was an Arkansas police chief (thankfully gone now.)

Trump wishes he were a dictator. But he has neither the charisma nor intelligence to pull it off.

All the same, makes incredulity of seemingly stupid behaviors make less sense when the stupidity is credible.

Rush Limbaugh as well, has deactivated Twitter now. His terminal bout with cancer notwithstanding.

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh has deactivated his Twitter account

No question the run on the Capital has played a significant role here.

I think grabs on power affect all kinds of people both left and right isles. Power should not have such an intoxicating influence on individuals because it always spells trouble.

But Amy and all of Parlar have, and have not objected to what they were shown. Can you explain that?

I would need a time frame to judge on that. From the letter you posted, it seems they were working on the issue, but Big Tech did not accept that.

By the way I dont think the ACLU is a great friend of Trump, but even they are concerned by this Big Tech speech control:

“it should concern everyone when companies like Facebook and Twitter wield he unchecked power to remove people from platforms that have become indispensable for the speech of millions." Kate Ruane, senior ACLU legal council

I find it baffling that so many people are OK with censorship. Do they not realize that the pendulum can swing and come back to hit you?

I actually find it rather disgusting that Trump has been allowed to blatantly violate Twitter/Facebook TOS for four years before getting the ban.

And then to have some nut jobs whining about "censorship" makes them look like complete idiots.

The oath plays a huge role here. All enemies foreign and domestic.

In principle, I agree with the police chief.

In reality, the perception of a Marxist / Communist threat has not been realized yet to warrant any forceful resistance. There are no Marxist or Communist holdings of office that im aware of although socialism should be closely watched to ensure the continuity of the Constitution.

Same applies for fascism as well, because the two are extremes this country does not need at any time.

In spite of unpopularity, I'm against muzzling any venues because views are unpopular or hated.

There's that profound saying from The Godfather fame, 'Keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer".
