My guess is Trump is likely will pardon them.

He would not be acting out of character to ignore them. Trump is loyal only to himself, and he often throws supporters under the bus, but there are political advantages to his pardoning them. Most people will disapprove, but his base will applaud -- and Trump almost never plays to any group outside his base.

One considerable disadvantage is a pardoned individual cannot plead the fifth. Prosecutors can put such people on trial and give them little real choice but to tell all. If Trump pardons his children and their spouses, that's the risk he takes.

Fascinating. I wonder what kind of fallout would happen if that were to occur

If they are pardoned...the public will not pardon them. It won't work.

It certainly wouldn’t look good, even on the world stage

It is amazing to hear the account of a protestor who felt she was doing her patriotic duty as requested by the president of the USA. It raises important issues about culpability.

I am not convinced, a lot of conservatives gave him heat for it.

Yes, that's an interesting question. She seems genuinely convinced she did nothing wrong. And what authority can you still believe when not the president?

Are you under the impression that Trump's core supporters are conservatives? People who favor conserving the Constitution, traditional American democratic values, American institutions, and key political traditions? I'm not saying you're wrong, but do you have any evidence for it? Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence. I think at this point, calling Trump's core supporters 'conservatives' is an extraordinary claim.

My guess is if Trump threw more of his supporters under the bus -- and I believe he will do as he's done in the past (i.e. there will from time to time be more who go under the bus) -- that he will suffer no more consequences for it than he has always done.

Against that, of course, is the Huffington study that found a small, but possibly growing backlash against Trump. Maybe that will end up going somewhere.

Fair enough, I guess what I was referring to was Republican voters, which may not be the same thing.

Trump is a “wealthy” white guy. Not be go all “leftist” on you but I doubt he’ll face consequences ever. Although there is supposed to be like a huge *** line of people itching to sue him after Inauguration Day. (That’s what it’s called, right?)
If there is a backlash growing, do you think it’s a split occurring after the events of the riots? Like I dunno, that seemed to be too far for some.
Hmm I continue to remain fascinated, against my better judgement. I’ve never seen a cult of personality crumble apart before.

Well, the first thing to understand about the small but possibly growing backlash the Huffington Post study seems to have uncovered is that it in no way, shape, or form has anything to do with people backing off or backing down from their radicalism. Believe it or not, it's people going forward! Becoming so radical, so fast, that they are outpacing Trump himself, and have begun condemning him for "cowardice" and "standing in their way". That much, everyone needs to understand before anything else.

Too soon to make predictions about where that backlash will end up, but if the worse happens to Trump now, his own former supporters will take him down politically. Perhaps even try to do violence to him, his family, or his properties.

It's possible some of his supporters were appalled by 1/6 and are now backing off, but they are a different group than the Huffington study found. About them: Don't count them as truly abandoning Trump until a good while has gone by. Humans who suffer political 'shock' usually revert to their former positions after the shock wears off.

Indeed, I believe you have just now channeled Robespierre's last sentiments as the blade was descending on his neck.

Also @Sunstone I must thank you for the reference. It pinged a tiny little piece of my dumb brain of recognition.

I vaguely recall learning about him during European History class. So I had to Google

As a side-note, it's great evidence for the Senate impeachment trial.

I love it. Not that I look forward to the prospect of them being pardoned. What I like about it is that please like this can be used as evidence against Trump in his impeachment trial. He did ask his followers to attack the Capitol. They are saying so themselves.
