isn't an illusion a real thing? something "being" manifested but distorted and temporal?

No one has convinced me of any example of what is real, other than what is widely accepted as real. Wide acceptance doesn't justify or validate anything, ultimately. IMO.

Are thoughts a physical thing? No, but they depend on a physical thing to do the thinking.

Nope. A mirage a.k.a. Fata Morgana, is real, though. You can take a picture of a mirage but not of an illusion.
