Oxford Study Sheds Light on Muhammad’s ‘Underage’ Wife Aisha

I sympathise with your sentiments, but scholarship is nonetheless valuable in questioning a previous consensus.

While there is an orthodox Sunni consensus, there is not really a secular historical consensus to be questioned.

What is in some ways more interesting than the age at which Aisha was married is the general doubt cast on the literal accuracy of hadiths in general, even those regarded as "core".

The most highly regarded hadiths are those considered mutawatir, which, within the bounds of Islamic hermeneutics at least, means so authoritative it's basically a fact.

Mutawatir hadiths include Muhammad splitting the moon and flying to Jerusalem on donkey.

So, room for a reformed interpretation to emerge, then.;)

I believe that's called "peer review?"
More than peer review because we've seen too many findings get overturned due to fraud even in the STEM fields. We need someone to use the same or different methods to see if they can replicate the conclusions.
