'Child rights agency UNICEF has condemned the sentencing of a 13-year-old boy to 10 years in prison for blasphemy in northern Nigeria.

Omar Farouq was convicted in a Sharia court in Kano State in northwest Nigeria after he was accused of using foul language toward Allah in an argument with a friend.

He was sentenced on August 10 by the same court that recently sentenced a studio assistant Yahaya Sharif-Aminu to death for blaspheming Prophet Mohammed, according to lawyers.'

I have Nigerian friends who are very worried about the influence sharia is having on their country.

With the onset of puberty, the individual becomes subject to shar‘i rulings that apply to him, so he should not shake hands with women or look at them, and he should not be alone with a woman, because he has now become accountable and the things that are prohibited for adult men are also prohibited for him, because he is one of them. It is not permissible to be careless about this matter, and it is essential to take it seriously. So you must refuse to go to the women’s prayer hall, and refuse to shake hands with non-mahram women or look at them, including your cousins, even if they object to you doing that, because there can be no obedience to any created being if it involves disobedience towards the Creator.

My sympathy, but then you perhaps have to equate such as to killing, which might be tricky to assert, and where the latter often doesn't mean death as punishment in many countries.

So you believe in inequalities for males and females - see that as progress?

It doesn't mean death in many countries, perhaps taking someone's dignity by force should involve a death sentiment, it is surely a deterrent.

However, please note i am vehemently opposed to the death sentence.

This, the poor, out dated, treatment of women is my main objection to islam and any other faith that treats women as chattels and sub class.

I can agree that some of the sharia law are to strickt, and maybe its good i live in Norway where there is no active sharia law in place.
But i also understand why strict law is sometimes needed.

To subdue women by law is understood how?

A law that puts a 13 year old child in prison for 10 years for speaking is understood how?

According to islam when a person reach puberty they are seen as adult. So they follow the same law as adult people.

I do not agree that woman should be submissed by man. So no i do not support exteme version of Sharia law.

At 13 you are still a child, no matter what some 8th book says.

It is not only sharia that considers women as second class, the Qur'an teaches it to all muslims

I do not agree fully on that, but yes the rules in Islam can be used in the wrong way by some. Majority of muslims do not treate woman badly
