Basically what it says in the title. Its happening in partnership and collaboration with renewable energy industry. The Department of Climate Change (which includes me) is leading the establishment of the school and its research and course curriculum. Hoping that it will play a part in getting India into zero carbon future. I will be very busy with getting this school up and running over the next few years I think. Hoping it is a success.

Obviously this plan has been in the works for a while. Did this year's heat help at all? Or was it pretty much a done deal before nature told India that climate change was resl?

India has been working aggressively to transition to clean energy. The rising heat related issues, pollution as well as the fact that country needs to import most of it's oil and gas means clean energy technology makes both environmental and economic sense.

Faculty. My parent Dept is Mechanical Engg. but I specialise in energy and thermochemistry. Hence I am also Co-faculty with Climate Change Dept.

India has promised zero carbon emission by (I think) 2050. India never renegades on its word. The efforts of your institution and your own are highly welcome. Best wishes for your collaboration. As you said, makes sense environmentally as well as economically. India is vigorously working on that. That will also help us to improve on atmospheric and river pollution, two of our major problems.
