The phenomenon of actually flipping directions as shown in the video is more recent and actually pretty interesting. The explanation given in terms of the rotating coordinate system and fictional forces is fantastic.
I find it amusing that the Russians kept it secret because they thought it might imply the reversal of poles on the Earth. Why it doesn't is also interesting.
