Old Testament Baptism

As a Latter-day saint, how convinced are you that baptism as a saving ordinance has always been as ubiquitous among the people of God in ancient times as it was in new testament times and as it is in Modern christianity and Mormonism in particular?

This view is of course emphasized in modern scripture like the Book of Mormon and the Book of Moses.

However a reading of the old testament brings up multiple references to circumcision and sacrifices but nothing about baptism other a reference or two to washings.

Converts to Judaism are required to go through something very similar to a Baptism.

Ritual washing in Judaism - Wikipedia

Do you agree that both these references fail to prove that baptism was actually practised in the same way in Old Testament times as it was in New Testament times and in modern Christianity.

For example one of the people quoted talks about how the Children Of Israel's baptism was their time in the wilderness.

Another quote makes it appear that baptism was of Babylonian origin.

It appears that baptism only took a prominent role as the saving ordinance during and after the time of Christ.

Only latter-day scriptures seem give baptism a central role in salvation before Christ.

I can accept that.
