Hypothetical question.Saudi Arabia or adjoining countries ramp up oil production.Secretly oil tankers with transponders off sail for Germany via different routes. You might say this risks annoying Russia. However it is a secret operation why tell anyone?. Russians and Ukrainians are dying. Its really for Russia's own good.

Workable? and do you have suggestions to help Germany?
Note Germany has the threat of Russia cutting oil supplies - blackmail

They need gas far more than oil, and they don't really have the facilities to receive sufficiently large quantities by sea or other means because they were stupid enough to become overly dependent on Russia.

This is not about oil, really, but about gas. Saudi doesn't have much gas to spare. It is Qatar that can help.

Totally agree about the point gas is the issue. The Germans are looking to fill 60% of storage capacity.Capability is 90%.The point is even at 90% it will only last 2 months.Perhaps IF Germany's gas is not restored PDQ they could prevail on NATO to do tit for tat.Naval and air exercises in the Arctic.Putin is so paranoid he would rush in arms and troops to that region.Good for Zelensky and Ukraine.Divide and rule. The good thing is the Germans are so hopping mad with the invasion of Ukraine they would rather freeze than grant concessions.

I do not think NATO or Germany would want to do anything to further inflame the military situation.

The solution has to be to reduce gas consumption - on which a pan-EU agreement was tentatively reached today, actually - boost other energy sources as far as possible and buy in gas from N America and Qatar. Even so there could well be gas rationing in Europe this winter, according to Ben van Beurden, CEO of Royal Dutch Shell. He will know, as Shell is nowadays, under his direction, more a gas company than an oil company. Europe has to be prepared for short time working and an economic recession.

In wartime one has to make sacrifices for one's freedom.
