North Koreans can't be that stupid

Today I was reading:

"The bible is banned in North Korea because the people there are supposed to see their leaders as gods. The citizens are made to believe that the leader is the most powerful person in the world, for example they think that their leader learned to drive a car at 2 and was born under a double rainbow on top of a unicorn layer (the citizens seriously believe that)"https://www.quora.com/Why-is-the-Bible-banned-in-North-Korea

My brother visited south Korea and said they found some educational textbooks on what children in North Korea are taught, and sure enough they contained stupidity like that.

People in North Korea must be just as intelligent as people elsewhere.

Don't you think they realize they're being taught BS? What on earth do you think prevents such a stupid Government from completely collapsing?

I bet you can find a textbook in the USA claiming that the earth is about 6000 years old. And one telling the story of our country that barely mentions genocide.

Glass houses, stones, etc.

Yeah I guess I do live in a glass house. The Bible contains it's share of absurdities. At least we don't have the Government enforcing it.

We once did.
I went to public school back when teachers taught Bible stories.
And they required a religious oath (the modified Pledge Of Allegiance).
There were other such abominations.

A few generations of being cut off from the rest of the world and closely controlled education and media will do that to you.
I'd think people would be able to discern that there is something extremely wrong with it. Who on earth would want to live like that?

Maybe Trump will put the regime out of it's misery?

There are those who do escape.

Great interviews with two defectors, gives a great insight into the mindset.

Thx for sharing.

Wow! If you are caught making a phone call to south Korea, participating in porn, or escaping the country, your entire family is executed. That is heartbreaking and stupid as hell!

I kinda hope America liberates them.

Did you also murder each and every other follower and/or priest of another Religion?
Are you throwing entire families based on accusations into prison camps where they are killed for minor offences or worked to death?
Are children born into these camps also guilty of their parents "crimes" and indefinitely imprisoned?

I can go on with this.

The US is not even remotely comparable to North Korea.

Many probably not. But the majority probably does.

Its why the DPRK is different from the GDR. The people in the GDR could watch West German TV and listen to such Radio stations.
You don't have that in North Korea.

What on earth do you think prevents such a stupid Government from completely collapsing?

Its Secret Services, Armed Forces, the Communists of China and a good dose of indoctrination.

But you have to see this from the bright side, their songs are "great".

It's an insane place. If you aren't insane yourself, you have to be good at acting like you worship the leader if you want to survive.

American air strikes during the Korean War killed millions of Korean civilians... 20% of the population by one estimate I've seen.

In North Korean eyes, the US is directly comparable to Nazi Germany.

The North Koreans generally believe that they were the victims of an attempted genocide by the US, backed by the UN... and the North Korean leadership has spent the last 60-odd years making sure the North Korean people never forget.

When we keep in mind that North Korea sincerely believes that virtually the entire world except for China & the Soviet Union tried to not only win a war against them but exterminate them, and that they could try to finish the job in the future, their attitude to the rest of the world makes a lot more sense.

Ah yes of course.

  • Total civilians killed/wounded: 2.5 million (est.)[17]
  • South Korea: 990,968
    373,599 killed[17]
    229,625 wounded[17]
    387,744 abducted/missing[17]
  • North Korea: 1,550,000 (est.)[17]

Personally dig the "abducted/missing" part.

Millions killed by bombings alone? And all done by the US?
Sure thing. lol

You write "their attitude" while you mean "the North Korean Governments attitude". And the North Korean Government knows better.

The general population has no attitude that it can voice towards the evil West because there is no communication with them. All communication is done with the North Korean Government.

It's not about belief, it's question it and it's to the gulag for you. Or maybe they'll just kill your family.
Maybe @CogentPhilosopher will repost his brilliant little video. The parallels between how the North Korean government keep their grip on power and the way religious organizations do is striking.

So much so that I find Communist dictatorships, from the Kims to Mao, de facto religions.

I'm flattered but all credit should go to DarkMatter2525 who made the video.
