    I thought that was obvious.

Religion is one of the most socially and politically powerful forces on earth. It influences every aspect of our lives, and as such is important enough to warrant discussion.

Must you be a politician to be interested in politics, or be religious to be interested in religion?

I'm asking a question, not making a statement.

That and to wipe the smugness off the faces of some believers. ;)

People are interested in religion for all sorts of reasons. One of my pet interests, for instance, is in how religiosity evolved in humans.

The smugness or wiping it off?

Curiosity. I desperately want to believe. I try to live my life as if god was true. I don't know why because I'm sure it's all a lie. But I just don't believe but I don't want to risk being wrong. It hurts. I read the words of others and they're really no different than me. All of them seem to want to believe.

When I first came here back in early 2006 I was a devout Christian. I was having doubts about various aspects of my faith and through those early years was able to discuss and ask questions of others regarding their religious beliefs (or not) to compare against my own beliefs and thoughts. I'm now agnostic but with help from the folks on Religious Forums, I changed my views regarding God. In all sincerity, the people here helped me hone and fine tune what I believed about a supernatural deity/deities. Even though I'm no longer religious, it's still a fascinating subject and that's one reason why I'm still here.

I'm not sure it is even possible to tell the religious people from the non-religious.

There is certainly no unifying thread or characteristic to identify the religious people.

I would say, opposite for me, RF is the place where I've learned through either discussion or debate about various topics concerning religion(s).

How is that vague? I gave a concise and clear answer, what was vague about it?

Vague? It seemed pretty clear to me.

For socializing. Religion is a very interesting topic plus in these particular forums we discuss a myriad of other topics as well. Like trampolines and food. The religious and non religious have a wide sampling of opinions that I like to read about and occasionally discuss and debate.

Revoltingest and I used to have fun on a history forum. He invited me. I steer clear of the religious subjects mostly (although not always) and use the place as a way to vent insanity from my zipper-sealed skull. Plus, I love poking absolutists in the funny bone.
