    What’s the old meme?
If Breaking Bad was set in literally any other civilised country, it would be a slice of life drama about a man getting cancer treatment

I have my own issues with our Medicare. But as someone who grew up in the oncology ward, I’m happy that my dad didn’t have to also worry about providing money to cover all the treatments

No because I've had lymphoma twice and I doubt if I'd be alive today under what I know of the U.S. system. I admit that all I know is from the Michael Moore documentary.

Asking that question on RF is selecting your sample. That's a bad practice.
RF has no members from third word countries with a more desolate health care system than the US. RF has, afaik, no stockholders in Big Pharma or insurance companies.

But that's not applicable anyway. We're comparing universal vs. privatized, first world. I suppose I should've specified.

Are you out of your freakin' mind?!?

As a Canadian, when I needed surgery on my spine, my family doctor referred me to a neurosurgeon, he ordered an MRI, looked at it, and operated within the week. The cost to me was zero, and the government had exactly one involvement -- it paid the bills to my family doctor, my surgeon, and the hospital.

When my lover was struck by a very severe Guillaine-Barre Syndrome (Acute Motor Axonal Neuropathy variety), and went from walking to paralyzed from the neck down in 2 days, spent 8 1/2 months in hospital with procedures that totaled in the millions -- and then got home care for over a year -- once again, the cost to us was nothing, and no government was involved except for paying.

Oh, over the past couple of years, we've had 5 COVID vaccines and 2 flu vaccines (high dose senior). These are simple to get, and the government actually provides online records so we can prove we've had them on our phones.

Now, tell me, for what possible reason could we prefer the American system?

We have privatized (mandatory, heavily regulated) healthcare. Ours works.

Don't ask me, U.S. conservatives insist that our privatized healthcare is superior and envied by those with universal healthcare.

We, the sane population of America, is ****ing OVER being compared to a third world country. We shouldn't have to compare ourselves to lower. We should look at the top and have at least that.

People should think about things as they are, instead of through a political, religious, etc, filter. " How does this affect humans?" Things would work much better. Everyone is trying to protect their pet view. It's sickening.

Our healthcare is groaning under some systemic issues, and an aging population (Australia).

I'd take it over the American system 11/10 times.

The only reason I can think of is if one actively wants to see more humans die. It's one of many reasons why I've stopped calling the modern Republican Party by that name and instead started calling them the Death Party. They kind of are, at this point, between being anti-science on pandemics and vaccinations, anti-science on the existential threats posed by climate change, anti-woman by restricting and banning women's health care, and anti-regulation on assault weaponry and other firearms. Though in fairness, a fair whack of politicians in the Death Party are a bit out of step with what their own voters actually want - there is pretty widespread support for reasonable regulation of firearms for example - but then there's all the corporate money in the politics here that sort of ruins a lot of stuff.

No...because health is not a business.
And the poor can't afford operations or surgeries.
