Is the New Age a religion? Example of use in a sentence:

"My faith is the New Age movement."

Or is it an identifier added to your pre-existing faith to further explain your beliefs?

Example: "I am a New Age Christian", "I am a New Age Hindu believer", "I am a New Age Wiccan".

Not a specific religion, any more than "Pagan," or "Left-Hand."

I think it's helpful to use the term as an addition to the main belief for the person you're talking to(for example, "I'm a New Age Christian"), but I don't think I've ever heard a person refer to themselves as a New Ager(though I've heard people call others that).

I've heard it used as "I do New Age practices." That and your latter option makes more sense. New Age has so many sub-categorizes. I also think it's somewhat derogatory in that christianity used to be New Age, and so has Judaism. Maybe Paganism would be considered traditional and new age just depends on the generation in which new religious practices develop.

To me "new age" is a general term for those who don't find meaning in traditional forms of religion/belief and look for something new. They include "spiritual but not religious", "intentional communities" and syncretic forms of belief and practice.

I get the impression it begins with the confluence of several influences here in the USA. First there is the influence of Hinduism. Secondly there is the post WWII peace movement. Thirdly there is a belief in Astrological ages. 'New Age' incorporates a lot of different people, but its a loose reference to all of these disparate influences coming together and also a departure from older ways. The idea is that there is a new astrological age. Some people also believe they are reincarnated from other planets here just visiting on Earth for one life, and they occasionally have get-togethers and some kind of ceremonies. I've seen them while driving down the road, but I don't remember what they call themselves.

Opinions vary about when Aquarius (the new age) begins or began: Age of Aquarius - Wikipedia

That's about all I know about it, and I don't think its a formalized movement for the most part. Maybe there are some small groups.

i think it is an extension of the renaissance idea/phenomenon which has continued and some people are prone to getting carried away with concepts and ritual and such matters.
That it marks a point in turning of times or seasons, cycles within the larger unfolding story of history, such as the precession idea of the great year illustrates, seems clear, and this serves some people as an emblem to inspire them to action as a motivational tool [ideally], despite the contentions as to its calendric accuracy.
