Nearly 30 arrested for mass shooting threats in weeks after El Paso, Dayton

True.

I cannot help wondering, though, if people bent on
mass murder might not bet ingenious enough to
find ways to be even more deadly, if deprived of
guns.

There has been a spate of driving cars or trucks into crowds. Maybe the perps couldn't afford a gun

And there's no reason outside of paranoid fantasies that anyone needs a semi-automatic weapon with a high capacity magazine.

There have been semi automatic weapons on the market
for well over a hundred years. "High capacity" is a vague
term intended to convey a sinister impression of course.

Simple .22 rifles with a capacity up to 20 rounds are and
have been common for a hundred years and more.

Ask farmers, ranchers, hunters etc why they prefer
this type, I dont know. "Paranoid fantasy" though,
is kind of obviously not it.

There are well in excess of ten million high power
semi automatic rifles in the USA-based on that
there are 10 million ARs alone. Most are "high capacity".

Again-ask the collectors of military antiques, ranchers,
farmers, hunters, competitive and recreational shooters
why this is what they want. I am no shootist, I get
this info from my boyfriend, I am just repeating it.
"Paranoid fantasy" is not it, though.

Regarding need, few NEED a sports car,
a Harley Davidson, a jet ski, a snowmobile,
a four wheeler, a jeep, a surfboard, or their
own airplane.

I dont NEED a Chanel bag.

Is it your, or someone else's actual business to
determine who needs what, and disallow what
does not fit your need to make such determinations?

And finally not be be tiresome about invoking the
2nd, for lo, many are tired of hearing about it.
When it is entirely suitable and relevant, though,
you are going to.

Observe: the bill of rights is not about whether you feel or have
a need to speak. Or go to church. Or be free from
unreasonable search or seizure. You may have no
need for a trial. Nowhere does the bill of rights mention need.

# Two is NOT about need. No more than any other
right.

Finally, on "paranoid fantasy". People like that
do exist. There are people with paranoid fantasies
that the devil is after them, or that they are being
spied on by the FBI. Fortunately, this is rare.

I am confident that you do not actually believe that
tens of millions of Americans are bitterly clinging
to assault weapons of war because of a paranoid
need for them. I hope you would go for a more
perceptive view of fellow citizens and avoid the
invidious descriptors of people you really do not
know. Ok?

I arrived in Paris the day of the attack in Nice.

Left the day someone brought an old artillery shell
into the train station. (I was there for the evacuation)

A perp could commandeer a bus and drive it off a cliff.
There are so many things, it may be a grim blessing in
disguise that so far they think guns are just the thing.

Too many dangerous weapons in every day objects. You would be surprised what damage a comb or a pencil can do, not mass killings but individuals are so easy if someone gets that crazy

After I was assaulted, I was not so eager to
experience a repeat, so I took some self defense
classes, and obtained a pistol permit.

A rolled up magazine, pencil etc can in fact
make a terrible weapon in determined hands.

How effective I could hope to be is of course
another matter, no matter how motivated I might be.

Without people there would be no cars.

Without cars there would be no car wrecks.

Btw, the stats world wide.. Nearly 1.25 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. An additional 20-50 million are injured or disabled.

Edit in America 268.8 million vehicles were registered here in 2016.
2018 report estimates that American civilians own 393 million guns.
Guns out number cars yet cars are more deadly than guns.
Don't try to convince them of that. They just don't know how to add up the numbers. Mathematical disability I guess. Beyond the ability to comprehend. Chalk it up to poor education with some remedial mathematics.

The doctors killed my stepdad and almost killed my Mom.

More Deadly Than Strokes, Accidents and Alzheimer's Disease
Their latest estimate found that approximately 251,000 lives are claimed each year because of medical error - about 9.5 percent of all deaths annually in the United States.

Gas , bombs, the common cold, you name it , they'll use it .

Someone told me of a fellow office worker finding a
(shudder) *****gun******!!!! in the office mail.

She was screaming, in a complete panic.

People have a hard time being rational about
some things.

As I said above.. "We should have stricter and more thorough gun laws. I've said that for a while.
Anyone that has ever been treated for a mental illness(meds, etc) shouldn't be able to own a gun."
Even better: if someone thinks they need to keep a gun for "defense," we can infer that their judgement isn't good enough for them to own a firearm.

Not completely harmless, but much less harmful overall, yes.

While who "these people" might be is not clear,
obviously in some cases, it is so.

The guy who opens fire on the cops when they
pull his car over, say. Lots of examples of that
sort of thing.

As for those bent on terrorism, we dont know.
How that might go if all mass murderers / terrorists
were entirely deprived of small arms who knows,
it has never been tried anywhere.

Determined let alone organized persons will get guns
in any country or city regardless of the harshest laws.

Then too, there are so many other ways to commit
mayhem on a large scale.

One of my past co-workers carried a pistol to work everyday. And yep he has all the proper permits and everything.

For some people all I got to say is God help us if we're in a real serious War and they actually got to learn how do fire gawd, a gun! Shudder, panic..... Post-traumatic stress disorder at the mere sight of a gun. Boy we got a nation of wussies now.
