So my new guy friend did not appreciate me asking him to come meet me, I thought I could meet men on my porch who would want to be platonic friends and just talk. But not a chance this guy said I was giving him mixed messages and my addiction sponsor agree with him, it's way too early to meet.

But he decided a few days ago he still wants to text, so he still likes to text Trump mania thinking, but we also share our day with each other, and also talk about the news, we are both in Dallas Fort Worth so we talk about announcements and sometimes Covid and the businesses that have closed down.

For instance this week we talked about the State Fair having closed down and their businesses that suffered for Covid. But Fletchers Corney dogs is opening at different pop up stops in Dallas this month which is nice. My sister is going to get one, I hope she brings me one.

So we have a few things in common including tv shows we like also. His daughters were all big Buffy fans and he has a scifi a couple of them he watches.

So right now it's turning out good. I hop we can keep it up, texting my not mean much to most people but for me it's very helpful in keeping me from being so lonely.

There is a strong, durable type of passion that comes in the pursuit of expertise. Not all activities allow for expertise. Tic-tac-toe really doesn't, chess does. Cooking, photography, even better video games, and so on provide the chance to become truly expert.

In my life, most of my best friends have been those who share my passion for a particular pursuit. For me it's been: chess, Go, photography, rock climbing, tennis, golf, skiing, horses, programming, and so on.

I think that one great cure for loneliness is to pursue a passion or two and connect with others who pursue that passion. These days you can make these connections online for most any pursuit you can think of. :)

That's a very good idea. I thinking of trying to make some friends in my Unitarian universalist church singles group on faceebook. we will see.

I agree with Icehorse. It’s very fun to join groups with shared interests. Book clubs or gaming or other interests you like. You might not always find friends, but you’ll find comrade which can turn into friendship

I'm sharing my time with Buffy The Vampire Slayer fans on facebook which has been fun.I am working on it. I also said hi to a guy in my UU singles group and he said hi back.
