My off-the-wall political question

Secret Chief

nirvana is samsara
Would you rather live in a society run by libertarian American progressives, or one run by authoritarian communists?
Confusion....
libertarian and progressive?
Why associate "authoritarian" with communism? Communism refers to an ideology which does not even require a state.

It'd open up a can of worms to talk about it. But I consider China both authoritarian and communist, I think. Is that incorrect?
A can of worms inside a can of worms. I consider China (and Russia) to be authoritarian, not communist. :)

Since I am not poor, possess a high level of instruction, come from a well off family, don't have any sort of major health problem and am completely childless, a libertarian American progressive government would have little to no negative impact on me or those closest to me. If I were poor or sick or vulnerable, an authoritarian communist government might be better for me. In society in general, it depends heavily on the resources available to the nation and the quality of its leaders. A libertarian and progressive government will be much less "swingy" when it comes to quality since it has so little influence. The size and power of private corporations and unions will affect the quality of life. In an authoritarian government, if the leader is rational and temperate life can be great, but if the leader is irrational and tempestuous, life will be miserable very quickly.

Are we assuming that the terms here accurately reflect the government and political culture? Does libertarian really mean libertarian? Does progressive really mean progressive?

I might be able to visualize an easier way of asking this question, by asking something like.....

"Would you rather live in a country ran by people like Bernie Sanders and the AOC, or be under China's rule?"

Then we can save the mud-slinging as to whether China is authoritarian communist for later.

Imo libertarian and progressivism are mutually exclusive terms. They have some overlap, but the latter requires government intervention the former quells at.

I'm anti authoritarian but I'm also anti laissez faire government which places personal freedoms of the majority above safety of the minority. And I think unregulated free market capitalism is far more destructive than regulated socialism.

So to me in the hypothetical you may as well flip a coin. They'd both be bad.
