Why are there a few people in the Christian religions that claim one must believe in Jesus to be saved?

I will assume this belief also includes the fact that those who do not believe will go to hell?

Both of these beliefs absolutely MUST be false, since Jesus never said any such thing.

    What say ye?

I grew up on this belief but I'm moving away from it now.

Here's the problematic scripture: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. -- John 14:6
    Basically, no Jesus, no salvation.

Does one have to believe in Hell in order to go there?

Good question. From what I've read in the Bible.
    John 3:18
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
Every Christian should be making the claim.

That's what it looks like to me.

So, are the only things in the Bible that are true are those that come from Jesus' mouth?

I'm not sure I've ever heard more false dichotomies than those presented by "Christians".

Maybe, but it's not all Christians who do it. Who are you aiming this comment towards?

If you're planning on going to hell, i recommend start praying to 'satan'.

I suppose not. it's just that i'm more familiar with those who claim Christianity.
I really wasn't "aiming" the comment. Just a brief gasp of frustration.

Fair enough! Christians have numbered amongst my closest friends and also my most frustrating/blinkered annoyances through my life. They run the full gamut.

I was raised on this judgment. Hated it!

The premise seems to be that salvation/damnation gospel is the obvious truth and im fully responsible to believe it and so is everybody else who hears it.

As if some sort of spirit is working somewhere.

Probably because that is what a group of sheepherders wanted you to THINK, Jesus said that. Virtually everything in the gospels attributed to Jesus, is second hand and third hand accountings...IF THAT!

The very best that I can determine is that "hell", is nothing more than the grave. In Hebrew it is called Sheol, in Greek it is Hades.....all translated as the abode of the DEAD. So, yes, in THAT context, we will indeed all "be going to hell".....eventually.

It WOULD seem that you are "catching on". Keep up the good work.

I can quote scripture to prove that they it's deeds not beliefs that is critical. Using self-contradictory texts to prove something is like flipping a coin, seeing what the result is and then justifying the result by cherry-picking.

Personally I'm with the deeds not words/beliefs crowd.

    Facts...

There are plenty of Jesus believers that tell other people to "go back to their country" all the time! I wonder looking at that scripturally, what takes more precedence, telling someone to go back to their country, or their belief in Jesus?

Anyone saved will be because of Christ, even those in the Old Testament.

    Acts 4:12
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

unless He is right there leading the way through hell......
    you're on your own

story goes....He went to hell....three days
    and returned to this world
    then ascended into heaven

but first He walked on water

    follow Him?

    on my best day....I cannot

and if I mention His name as mentor....
the angelic will take me straight to Him

    He might say......WHAT is this?

    the angelic will excuse themselves....saying
    he used your Name
as if it belonged to him
we thought he was one of Yours

and I shall have my day of reckoning
    with my Mentor

I think our omnipotent God of unconditional love allows everyone to enter the gates of heaven to experience eternal heavenly bliss regardless of our earthly sins or how we practiced or not practiced our religions. The problem is when we die we face the light of God and look into His infinite beauty. For many people looking into the face of God is too difficult and they turn away. When this happens a person is tortured by demons of their own creation. We are our own worse critics. There are moments where they can atone for their own negative self-image and turn back into the light to experience eternal heavenly bliss. Or they keep turning away from God and travel down the path to reincarnation tortured and tormented by each step suffering the most painful experiences imaginable. There the endless cycle of death and rebirth mercilessly continues with never ending suffering as they are reborn to a body of someone living in New Jersey.

This present world is discouraging, steeped in chaos, and full of hatred. Thinking a bit...If I can see that outside me, am I not the same?

Perhaps my best reaction to what I see is to do my best to make sure that my own life is pleasing to God, and seasoned with gentleness and love toward others? Is not God admonishing me to strive to please him while not allowing myself to be caught up in all the things that displease God?
