Most concise summary of the Trump presidency so far

Skanky Old Mongrel!
Has Her Maj ever actually used her reserve power? Our Governor General did back in, iirc, '75, when he canned an awful PM.
She carpeted Churchill for deliberately deceiving her about his health.
She reprimanded Eden for his Suez Galavant.
She rebuked McMillan for chucking in as PM when things got slightly difficult.
We were lucky with her, but may not be next time. I hope that Wills or Hal might succeed.

What I do care about is avoiding more wars, enhancing civil liberties,
good economic practice, & a strong Constitution (originalist view).

At the risk of posting a serious question in a less than serious thread, aren't you somewhat concerned about his current actions (for example, declaration of a national emergency to support wall funding via the defence budget)?
That doesn't seem to support Constitutional practices, but instead exploit them for loopholes?

That action doesn't bother me, since "emergency" is so vague,
and the amount of money involved is so relatively small.
The national debt hitting $22 trillion is a much bigger issue.
And Pence beating the war drums about Iran.

It was more how you consider this in relation to the Constitutional practices you mentioned rather than anything to do with the money involved, though.
War can be completely constitutional, and also something you have massive disagreement with.

I don't see a constitutional crisis over differences of opinion about what
is an emergency. The issue could be resolved by the USSC if needed.

Susan Collins is one of a few (R) Senators who have questioned the decision and mentioned constitutional grounds, as well as for the precedent it sets.

Of course, any constitutional challenge can ultimately end up being resolved by the USSC, but that doesn't say too much about this particular issue.

Anyway, no biggie if you don't have a strong opinion about it.

I like Harry, myself, but that ship seems to have sailed.

Hilary? Who was she?
It seems crazy to me, but both candidates seemed dreadful. After that turn out our Monarchy+Parliament seems quite reasonable. Our Queen can nobble totally inept or totally ill PMs, you know.

Would you like to come back to us? We're just trying to clear the decks to make room.

:p
As bad as Trump is, he has more legitimacy as a head of state than any British monarch.

As problematic as the 2016 election was, he did get something close to a mandate from the people. Elizabeth, OTOH, has never had any to face any sort of vote of the people to establish her legitimacy.

I have so many things to get riled about.
So I prioritize.

Trump is a president that has been the victim of constant fake news and misinformation attacks, that is unprecedented in American history. There has been two years of 93% negative news from the mainstream media even with a strong economy.

Internally, he was a constant victim of obstruction, sabotage, and leaks, getting little cooperation for his agenda, compared to all previous presidents. He has had to manage the gossip and intrigue, while also having to move the country forward, with executive order, with the Democrats and swamp sabotaging everywhere they can. This included using the courts to stall. These were impossible odds designed to make him fail.

In spite of all these obstacles, he has endured the best assaults of the Democrats and the Swamp. They have been unable to take him out. Trump is not only still standing, but his popularity is at an all time high. It is similar to the Spartans holding back the Persian Army at a pinch point. The Persians looked for a traitor to turn the tide, but it never appeared, because the whole thing was a scam. The America people are behind the president since they see him as a victim that fights back.

Trump has turned around the economy of the USA, to where it is the strongest economy in the world. He has also destroyed decades of Democrat party legacy that was designed to weaken America in preparation for globalism.

He continues to work to make America great again, by securing the border, even with constant obstruction by the hypocrite Democrats, who voted for the same things, just a few years ago.

The bipartition Senate Intelligence Committee has determined there was no Trump collusion based on over 200 witnesses and 300,000 pages of documents. This is also the same data that Mueller has, so the Mueller investigation is now expected to finish with a fizzle. The Democrat and swamp leadership is panicking, since senior Democrats leaders, in both Government and media, may be soon under investigation for conspiracy. The swamp chose the wrong person to mess with. This is why he was elected.

Once fake news has it head chopped off and the reporting becomes fair, Trump will look much better and his accomplishments seen in an objective way, even by the leftist youth. They will be angry, at being conned and used by the Democrats and swamp. Then it will be about Keeping America Great.

At least the Royal Family serves in the military
Some of them, sure. And I grant them the respect that I normally extend to veterans.

... but the fact that an unelected head of state served in the military doesn't somehow make their rule legitimate.

As people, I have a lot more issues with Trump than I do with Elizabeth... or even with Charles. Still, the way that Trump got into his position is much more in line with the principles of democracy than the way Elizabeth got into hers. Trump has an imperfect mandate from the people, but Elizabeth has no mandate at all.

Oh yeah?
You actually think that the system which can field a person like Donald is best?
Good luck with that.

It's not perfect, but it's certainly better than a system that picks heads of state based on supposed male-line descent from Wotan.
