A representative for Paul replied to a request for comment from Insider via e-mail, saying: "Anyone who watches the video can clearly see that Dr. Paul was making a light-hearted joke addressing the very real stresses of medical school."
An old video has surfaced of Sen. Rand Paul telling students that spreading misinformation is a 'great tactic'

Do you have a better example?

So back to the question. Personal awareness is key. Folks make claims, most of the time you are not going to know if it is a lie or not. I see it as my responsibility to not accept claims at face value from anyone.
They could be true or not. One should take into consideration their own personal bias wrt to any information received no matter how commonly accept it may be.

Friends who constantly lie, wouldn't be my friend though even I make the obvious lie with friend for the sake of humor. In case they don't get it, then I'll explain I was just kidding.
Sure lot of strangers lie to you for personal gain. Be aware of this and act only after you take the responsibility to verify.

Speaking of Paul do you think his story
    about snake- bite is true?
How might one verify, as in, asses the
    credibility of the story?

Every detail, like " was it raining hard?"

I assume you are talking about the apostle.
I know several people who embellish their stories to make the story more interesting. Adding inane details make the narrative more immersive for the listener.

Whether it was raining or not as harmful as some misinformation can be.

I tend to be neutral about information I can't verify.

A lot of folks believe being faithful gains them super powers like venom immunity though based on a claim because of that story. Misinformation in the Bible leading to the death of a few folks.

    I wouldn't consider this person a friend.
So? It was still irresponsible and reckless. Misinformation has no place in medicine, not even as a joke. Intentionally lying to patients or fellow clinicians, about anything, is unacceptable and unforgivable in such a field where informed consent, privacy, and ethics are mandated.

Probably should have implied he was joking for the slow folks in the crowd.

No, he should've been more responsible. It's long past due that America learns and accepts words have power and consequences.

Healthcare is, inherently, a very serious thing. It's not sucking the fun out of everything, it's expecting higher standards of those who carry with them a tremendous responsibility and accountability towards others.
Misinformation, even as a joke, has no room or place in healthcare. It's literally someone else's life on the line.

Taking healthcare seriously and expecting providers to uphold high standards isn't sucking the fun out of everything.
Amd when Bill says that he's ranting about victimless PC nonsense, like how SJWs get worked up over Halloween costumes.
Misinformation does not belong in healthcare.
And, of course Rand's people would downplay it. Suggesting the spread of misinformation in healthcare should be criminal. It is literally other people's lives and wellbeing on the line.

Where did Rand Paul suggest spreading misinformation in the healthcare system?

    The whole story is bogus.
    Far beyond mere embellishment.
The thing about rain is very peripheral.

    Excepting nobody lies constantly.

    "Always wrong" is utterly absurd

Im not s 100 % fan of common sense.
Its a good companion to analysis tho.

Its analysis shows the snake story is
    essentially impossible. Wildly improbable.
No vipers on the island is one prob tho
one Believer told e it couldda been a sea snake.
