Suicide is also becoming a tragic trend.

They will be able to plan accordingly for next season and plant less. The only reason it's an issue this year is because farmers didn't have knowledge before hand on how much to plant. So they planted a ton of crops expecting China to buy. With the surprise tariffs which means China buys less has resulted in the deficit. Which is why Trump is offsetting it with this $16 billion in aid.

And the farming bailout is not enough to turn the tide of bankruptcy which is still increasing.

    Very sad news.

I would prefer to discover that the hard right Republicans that put him in power are crashing and burning financially.

Want to see it. Wait to see it. They might even deserve it.

In spite of the age of the article, it should be noted that the trade War is all but a small Factor that is contributing to the farmers woes at this point in time.

    2019 article. .. and from CNBC .

Midwest farmers continue to struggle as bankers tighten credit standards, report says

You see it's really from a chain of events not one specific thing. It's a bit like a Rube Goldberg machine. It's just not been a good year for farmers out there.

It's still better than dictating means of production like the Socialists were doing , especially with the Cherry farmers five years ago. Putting many of them out of business.

Gee, I wonder who was president then?

Trump is actually trying to leverage a better and more fair trade deal and people were warned long ago it was going to come with some pain and to brace for the potential impact.

Still it isn't the trade deal that's given Farmers the majority of their trouble, it's more been the weather more than anything else as Farmers can and do plant alternative crops.

One thing I noticed in the article was this:

If this is true, why are we not seeing significant savings at the grocery stores?

In any case, this has nothing to do with Trump or even conservatives, since there have been liberal politicians who have supported tariffs and have warned of the problems with free trade.

The consequences are evident here, since it's obvious that making one's livelihood dependent upon the goodwill of a foreign power (and one which has traditionally been an adversary of the U.S.) is not a wise or prudent business decision.

If they are planting less, the issue that's lead up to this has not been addressed.

Sure it will. China buys 54% of the U.S. soybean crop each year. Farmers can plant less soybean and more of other crops to make up the difference made by the tarrifs.

That's why you don't plant soybean and plant other crops. The only reason we produced so much soy instead of other crops was to tap into the high demand soy market. Other crops will be planted and sold in its place all will be fine.

Dang right! We've got enough people in this country to buy all the wheat, corn and soybeans that farmers can grow. Also, we've got enough smart hard-working people in this country where we can make our own cars, laptops and cell phones. Let's put all those illegal immigrants to work building a wall between us and Canada and us and Mexico. Then let's build massive walls around the docks in New York, Miami, Tampa and San Francisco so no one can sneak any ships in or out.

By Golly, we need to be independent of all those crazies out there.

Maybe they should all plant coca, poppies, and marijuana.
