The story broke last week a Tallahassee Principal was asked by the school board and Chair to resign for showing to 11-12 years at a Renaissance Art class.We should all be very concerned.USA Presidents have taken their younger children to Florence to see David.No morals were outraged or souls endangered.Perhaps the Board are overly excited by the David.They worry perhaps their own excitement might be contagious and spread to others.
Meanwhile the Chair seems to be doing a good imitation of Homer Simpson.Instead of having an articulate educated defense.He clams up to the media.What would happen in the private sector if Chairs are unable to defend their position.Academics might wonder if the school let the right person go.

There is quite a homoerotic charge to Michelangelo’s David, even a straight guy like me couldn’t help but feel it. I’m not surprised it makes some people feel uncomfortable. Great art should do that; make people feel uncomfortable.

I wonder if it ever occurs to those who think nudity is always pornographic that their children can look down and behold the wonders of their own bodies from a very early age. And it won't be long before they observe others, too -- in the shower after the game. How much better if they are taught how natural it all is (and that keeping it all covered up in public is also a good social practice). Education is such a wonderful thing -- too bad so many on the right fear it.

I was hoping for dissenting views.Just to spread the debate.

The Chair was foolish to give in to one dissenting parent.Many Heads of outstanding USA schools would simply have said to the sole parent.We have a long waiting list.Please remove your child from our premises asap if our policy disturbs you.
The parents would of course be on their knees begging forgiveness from the Chair.Ther school role and budget would rocket.Wow if these guys are so confident about their long waiting list maybe we should apply.

The reply about the Christian right.Many evangelical on the right have clean minds.They see a spectacular work of art.They admire the scientific clarity as Michelangelo defines muscle skin and veins.Trump is right when he denounces Ron De Santis as Mr Sanctimonious.Restricting the breath of books from USA schools is poor education.

Finally the Chair is Un American and an affront to Thomas Jefferson and the principals of education.Everyone respects both the Chair and board to have their opinion.What is amazing is they clam up and cannot defend their position.THIS IS THE WHOLE REASON FOR EDUCATION.

None of this is actually about anyone being offended, or children being corrupted. It's about "team" political affiliation. That's why the chair had no spine. And no sense. He was playing team politics instead of doing his job.
