Lucky lady, jusy a few inches difference in landing position, so many variables controlling the fall of the meteorite, any of which could have seriously ruined her day

Does she have to give away that incredibly valuable relic?
I guess she deserves to keep it. She risked her own life.:)

I don't know what the laws are for such a case. I should hope she can keep it as a souvenir of her lucky escape

That is amazing and wonderful and so strange. Its also unfortunate that she's got to make roof repairs.

    It was a meteor wrong.

In the US it would be hers, since it is her property. I don't know what the law is for Canada. That meteorite could be easily be worth a million dollars:

Real money, not that funny colored stuff from up north.:D

A meteor out in space is going to be rather cold. When it hits the atmosphere it is moving very fast and the material that gets heated up tends to ablate off rather quickly. Meaning that heat does not get transferred into the middle of the meteorite. And then there were reports of explosions. The meteors can be moving so quickly that they are torn apart by the atmosphere. When it breaks up the odds are that any random piece will be from the interior. Still quite cold.

By the way, from the article that I linked this is the understatement of the year:

"Meteorites are safe to touch, radioactivity isn't a big concern, and they cool off on their way down. "

nonsense the odds of a meteorite being worth 1 million is well under one in a million, only one meteorite has ever sold for a million dollars or more

read the link and educate yourself, most meteorites are made of very common materials that have not so much value

I am a bit surprised. I used a source where they got some things terribly wrong and I did not stoop to think that they got the value of a meteorite terribly wrong. I thought that they were worth quite a bit more than that. I checked some prices at various sources and found that you were not too far off.

The value of a meteorite never relies upon the value of its contents. Its value comes from its rarity, but they do not appear to be as rare as I thought.

In 1954, an Alabama woman was hit in the side by a meteorite.

Edit: It is just not going to let me post a picture, but there are some with the linked reference.

Meteorite hit woman November 30, 1954 and ruined the rest of her life – Alabama Pioneers

I remember reading about this when I was a kid in a book my parents had in their library.
