Why does it matter (and it does) which "god" the other person speaks of? Is sincerity about theism sufficient evidence of being a Christian? How do you discern what "god" the other person is referring to (if not the true and living, trinitarian God)?

The answer is in details. A trinue God would need to demonstrate His fullness to beings and demonstrate intervention. He would have to come into our world and basically do it better than us to prove He is more capable and has better authority than us. Jesus Christ did that. The Holy Spirit is God inspired and interacts with people through people. It shows that the trinue God is true and real because He actually comes to our level to demonstrate He loves us and cares about us, and makes it about being a relationship with us.
