Cruz says he went on vacation amid storm 'to be a good dad'

He was just "Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon,” talking about his daughters vacation in Mexico.

I wonder if this will be remembered when he runs for reelection. As a lapdog of Trump perhaps he can get a pardon:rolleyes: I have a feeling that people may remember how out of touch he was. The good news is that he appears to be guaranteeing that Texas will go from "blue" to "purple" at the very least.

No name designated at this time.
I think it was very smart of him to escort his daughter and friends to Mexico.
But of course many of you are blaming his actions becuase of his political afflilation.

Exactly! The dude gets caught, and his first reaction is to blame his kids...

I'm no parent, but if I were, I'd leave my kids out of my issues- especially if I were in politics. o_O

I perused the article. It's a big nontroversy.
The only possible explanation for the criticism of Cruz is
    that it's racist....because he's Hispanic.
I know this because when I pointed out that birtherism isn't
racist because of the example of Cruz (a white guy), who
was also subjected to it. But my leftish friends told me
it was racist too because he's a POC.

I expect a Trump supporter to say something like that.

Some of us are indeed objective, observant, & impartial.

I'll tell ya, the article reeks of a desperate need to find
something to criticize. Sure, Cruz is an awful guy (IMO),
    but a non-essential politician takes a vacation?
Must be a really slow news day.

It is the optics, as they say. Millions of families in TX suffering - some burning their furniture to stay warm - and here is Cruz being a good daddy and going on vacation in Cancun err sorry taking his daughter and her friend to a vacation in Cancun?

Optics is highly dependent upon partisanship.
Sure, sure, Cruz's foes will see Satan's influence in this heinous act.
The same people saw nothing wrong when Obama, a champion
of fighting global warming by cutting fossil fuel use, would take a
family of 4 on a Hawaiian vacation during 2 wars, & burn 100,000
gallons of jet fuel each time.
Cruz should've stayed in TX, grabbed some wrenches, &
installed cold weather retrofit gear on wind turbines, eh.
    Yeah, he's that handy.

Nah, you are overthinking this. Your average Texan will see the privilege here and it will annoy/enrage them to then turn around and see their own kids cold and no clean water to drink (many treatment plants shut down).

I'm not concerned about it working against Cruz.
If this destroys his political career, that's fine with me.
    Are you worried about him?

Just pointing out that this episode looks bad politically. But he is also IMHO guilty of sedition and if that does not finish off his career then maybe this won't either (unfortunately).

His sedition is a separate issue.
It doesn't justify baseless criticism. about other things.
We must be fair. We may be cruel when deserved though.

Well, to be fair, here in Canada, when we are actually "locked down" with stay-at-home orders, no restaurants/bars, and even stores on main-street can only offer curb-side pick-up -- when a politician (someone who is part of the government ordering these things) then takes off and flies somewhere nice and comfy while the rest of huddle ----- guess what. He's gonna pay. And so he should.

    Um...
What exactly was he going to do that he would have had to remain in Texas to get done?

A Senator does have a constituency. He may not have been able to do much, but he could have done a lot more than your average Texan. And then there is the idea of working together instead of deciding that while everyone else suffers is a good time to go to Mexico.
