So, if you have criminals stealing guns...the answer is don't make guns for them to steal. What a solution!
One could say we have a lot of money counterfeiter's today. Perhaps the answer is , don't make money and you won't have counterfeiter's.
If you just quit providing the criminal the things he wants to steal, then you solve the problem? Sorry, let me empty my boots as I am wading knee deep in it.

Using the same logic. It's illegal to rape, yet there are rapists. Since laws against rape don't work because rapist don't obey them, let's make rape legal.
It's not because people break the law that a law is by definition bad. Restricting the availability of firearms is a way to reduce the damage caused by people breaking the law. It's not like guns are a necessity in life like money or cars for example and they certainly pause a problem for public safety that other stolen goods don't. It makes your comparison fallacious.
There will always be criminals. The goal of police work and the justice system is limit the damage of criminal behavior and contain crime not reduce it to 0 as this is a hopeless mission in the first place.
