What do different religions think about people smoking marijuana? Whether it is for medical purposes or just for the recreational use of marijuana how do different churches view this? Another thing to ask is if a plant has that many health benefits with no chemical or human interference being used for thousands and thousands of years, could you make the argument that God made this plant and he made this plant for a reason, the reason being to be consumed by the human body?

I think you need to add another possibility:

Yes, He made it for a reason but not for smoking.

That's true, there are a lot of other uses for hemp. It's humans that cultivate a specific type of hemp for drug use.

Marijuana isn't physically addicting. You can form a psychological dependence on it, though, but you can with pretty much anything.

as a buddhist i would never touch that kind of things, but i can not say other should or should not, that is not up to me to judge, i can only say what buddhism teach me.
One reason we should not use those things is the mindfulness get lost when intoxicated. as buddhist we try to kee our mind fully aware all the time.

Since cannabis, even when smoking it, has so many positives, I find it easy to say that its spirit is at least a good friend of humanity.

God placed everything in the universe for our use.

Then governments and religions (umm, people) came along and decided who should use what, when and where.

    Marijuana is forbidden for Baha'is:

"In reply to your request of October 24, 1967 that we issue a statement concerning ‘the use of marijuana, LSD and other psychedelic products‘, we have already informed the National Spiritual assembly of the United States that Bahá’ís should not use hallucinogenic agents, including LSD, peyote and similar substances, except when prescribed for medical treatment. Neither should they become involved in experiments with such substances."

In my own form of spirituality I believe smoking it in moderation is beneficial in a lot of ways. I feel it can help open up spiritual realms and can enlighten us on new perspectives. It really helped me overcome my depression and made me open my mind. It's just that I started to abuse it and it turned on me, I had quite a bad trip one day and from that day I stopped using it. I feel in moderation it can be great, however do not abuse it.

I think it is not necessary and can possibly be harmful, that is why I would not recommend to smoke it.

Cannabis is proving to be somewhat of a wonder drug....yet it is a simple herb with many uses...a plant put here by God for healing and aiding in pain management....and so many other things.

It was demonized by pharmaceutical companies and government propaganda so that it could not be used medicinally as it would be a threat to their artificial, chemically based drugs. (with side effects galore) It is easily grown and a very cheap medicine to produce at home in your own kitchen. But in states like California, where they have cannabis pharmacies, people can consult experts who will help them choose the right genus and strain for their particular condition. This should be commonplace throughout the world. But misinformation still clouds the minds of some people who believe the old propaganda. It never was a dangerous drug....in fact it has been used with great success to treat other drug addictions.

Its non-intoxicating cousin the Hemp plant, should have been used in the manufacture of plastics for decades because it is bio-degradable and non-toxic to the environment. Instead of polluting the oceans, hemp products would have provided a nutritious food source for marine creatures. It would have fertilized land fill....but Oil Companies pressured governments to ban hemp as well.

The corruption that took this plant away from the general population is nothing short of criminal. It treats anxiety and depression with no unwanted side effects. It eases the pain if many conditions without debilitating side effects as well.

Since Jehovah's Witnesses are bound by God to obey the laws of our nations, we will take this medicine if it is legal where we live. We will even move if necessary to obtain it for ongoing treatment of chronic conditions. Especially is this true for children suffering with intractable epilepsy....they feel like refugees, but truth be known, this plant should be legal for anyone to grow in their own backyard. If you can grow grapes and make alcohol, then cannabis is way less dangerous to your health than alcohol. CBD is not psycho-active like THC, but each is used to treat different conditions with great success.

All drugs are drugs whether natural or artificial. They are supposed to be used for special medical purposes only (when benefit outweighs damage). Otherwise it's abuse.

That goes without saying....alcohol is a drug and so is nicotine, but both are responsible for devastating global health problems...both kill more people each year than pandemics like the coronavirus, but there is no suggestion that we should ban them...is there?
The banning of cannabis was based on lies and greed for profit....the true gateway drugs have always been legal.

When did I say otherwise? No drug used purely for recreational purposes should be abuse, but alcohol and tobacco are both plant based "drugs" and abused by millions of people. Both have medicinal properties but when used to excess, are way more dangerous to health and well being than cannabis ever knew how to be.

People need to educate themselves and not be fooled by propaganda. Cannabis is not dangerous when used as a medicine and, unlike pharma drugs, it has little to no unwanted side effects. It is God's medicine, used for thousands of years on every continent, with each having its own strains. Now due to improved farming techniques, many new strains have been developed to treat different illnesses.

Smoking it is not what I am talking about.....cannabis oil is taken under the tongue.

We have cannabinoid receptors all over our bodies, which tells scientists that we are designed for this plant medicine.

Education needs to stamp out the stigma and the lies that are still believed about this plant. Why do you think it is still illegal in so many places despite the scientific studies proving its effectiveness? Big pharma wants a slice of that action because it wants to profit off the findings that proved that the scare mongering of past decades was a lie. They can't patent a plant, so they have to modify it by singling out a component and claiming that they produced it. Once they take out a patent, they can laugh all the way to the bank at our expense. Cannabis should be used as whole plant medicine. Some strains are very low in THC and are used for pain management and anxiety disorders. It has been used with great success in veterans suffering with PTSD.

It works wonders for people with Crohn's disease....but here in Australia people get arrested for growing a plant that will save their children's lives.

Some strains are low in CBD but higher in THC, beneficial for neurological disorders like epilepsy, Parkinson's and ALS.

Its time to stop the rot. This is not a dangerous plant and never was.....its what you do with the plant that matters.

Buddha had Bhang whilst sitting with the Sadhu; cannabis is a food, without it, we have malnutrition.

We need a full range of omega oils, cannabis is a super food with one of the best balanced amnio acid ranges (protein), and vitamin contents for humans.

Most of the world's religions have it as a sacred plant, and a lack of it in our diet, would explain the lack of ability to comprehend basic patterns they've been explaining.

In other words people don't think logically without it, as it regulates neural firing, and neural re-genesis; it was in most of the world's diet, until only recently where it was systematically removed...

Which is also why the increase in cancer rates in modern times, as it literally cures cancer; which we've known scientifically since 1974.

An intoxicant by definition is something that poisons the system in some way, cannabis joins on to our own endocannabinoid system that regulates our bodies functionality.

    In my opinion. :innocent:

Many of the religions globally were inspired by cannabis, with it being an essential ceremony that was practised globally:
In the Bible Exodus 30:23-25 the holy anointing oil should contain Kaneh Bosem (קנה־בשׂם) - This is where we get the etymology of the word cannabis from, as on trade routes to Greece, they also called it Cana - Bis...

In 1980 Dr Sula Benet recognized this mistranslation in the holy anointing oil ingredients; yet none take it seriously enough - even though it isn't translated properly in many versions of the Bible.

The design of the candle in Exodus 25:31-40 is the same shape as the canna leave, which is why the symbolism; that they had a cannabis leave candle holder, and a holy cannabis anointing oil ceremony.

When the oils are made specifically in the art of a perfumer (refined oils), because THC is fat soluble, it causes it to become a molecular compound, assisting in the healing of many illnesses.

Zoroastrian texts clearly define Haoma as a reed based plant, with spiky type aromatics sweet smelling flowers; that also match sacred geometry in its symmetrical design = Cannabis by definition.

Hindus, Buddha, Sikhs all have/had Bhang as ceremony, where it is cannabis mixed with milk as a food; which helps in deep meditation to reach enlightenment.

Take into account a Christ is an anointed King, and all prophets were anointed; it is the missing key in spiritual development globally.

The identity was removed from religions maybe at the time of Babylon; Yeshua tried to reinstate the whole cannabis anointing oil, where the early church were healing the sick with it (Mark 6:13, James 5:14).

It seems because cannabis helps remove demons from people, some people keep banning cannabis, and have had a war on human consciousness; whilst allowing us to have brain altering substances like coffee, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, etc, which impair our thinking in negative ways.
A Christian was called this in Early Church writings because they were anointed, else they would be called Baptists like John's disciples.

James 5:14 was saying they used cannabis for Healing purposes, it was maybe as the Church became corrupted by Pharisee infiltrators, it became more Babylonian, drinking alcohol at ceremonies instead.

As the scriptures say in Isaiah 29:9-14 the readers of the Bible have become dumb by drinking alcohol; this is why it says it is not for Kings or Princes to Drink as they might distort the Law (Proverbs 31:4-7), and yet though our lungs be fills like a bottle in the smoke, we do not distort the Law (Psalms 119:83) is in contrast.

Babylonians got drunk in meetings; Israelites are advanced shamans.
We can show how the body has an endocannabinoid system, where cannabis is a superfood needed for regulation of neural firing of the brain.

They found when giving children omega 3, it increased attention; cannabis has a full range of omega oils, and thus is needed for human development.

Hemp can be used to heal the nations, it literally removes cancer from people, and the land we live on, as it can remove radiation from nuclear fall out.

It is stated in ancient religious texts, that the beings who put humans on this planet, gave us the plant to help us.

Cannabis is one of the plants that shows it sexuality: females have none systematic branching systems, with arched backs, and males have little balls sacks, that release pollen.

In other words the idea the plant is unique from the rest, and acts as a superfood for humans, healing many things; isn't then a complex question, to say: it was genetically made that way, by advanced beings who put us here.

    In my opinion. :innocent:
