Well the 111 pope has been elected. In the Malachy Prophecy the discription of this pope was: Gloria olivæ
The Benedictine order traditionally said this Pope would come from their order.
And it looks like they were right as the new Pope has chosen the name Benedict. Now where will the Church go from here? This pope is supposed to bring about much world peace, especially in the middle east, before one of 2 things happen: Either the Catholic Church ends, thats right, or as written in the revised version of the Malachy Prophecy, the next pope, Peter II, reincarnation of the devil, is named, who then brings about the end of the Church.

A great site for any sceptics to read: http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/malachy.htm

Benedict XVI is not a member of the Benedictine Order and his name has nothing to do with the Order.... other than that, neat post.

Thank you, I didn't know that.

Is there still something tthat identifies him with olives?

The last three popes had something pretty accurately predicted by Malachy.

My question is, why was he canonized if his prophecies were heretical or untrue?

Wow! My name is "Peter"! Maybe I'm the last pope! :woohoo:

Not sure..... that's not an obvious thing that would come up in discussion.... maybe it will not be clear for some time.
Never said they were.... I do believe it is against Catholic teachings to attempt to "define" the phophecies (that is reserved for the Church).... I thought I made that clear the last time we chatted about this topic, sorry if I was unclear.

I'm not a big fan of stuff like this.... I guess my bias is showing.;)

    Hey Druidus.... check this out:

Text of the speech delivered by Joseph Ratzinger, elected pope Tuesday, from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica:

"Dear brothers and sisters, after the great Pope John Paul II, the cardinals have elected me - a simple, humble worker in the vineyard of the Lord.

"The fact that the Lord can work and act even with insufficient means consoles me, and above all I entrust myself to your prayers.

"In the joy of the risen Lord, trusting in his permanent help, we go forward. The Lord will help us and Mary his very holy mother stands by us.

But because of war, the real person who is "Gloria Olivae" is unknown to most people. He was born during the formation of the state of Israel whose emblem is the olive leaf. There is also prophecy by Nostradamus which is informative concerning the time after the "aged" pontiff, John Paul II.

This reply written by Petrus Romanus, the sign of the Son of Man in Heaven; he who was "John", and Elijah.

Is "Malachy's" prophecy legitimate? Probably not. The consensus among modern scholars is that it is a 16th-century forgery created for partisan political reasons.
Do the prophecies of St. Malachy suggest we are living in the end times? | Catholic Answers

It has been the tradition of every pope down through the centuries NOT to take on the name of Peter (Petrus),; I'm not sure why. Maybe it has something to do with a special reverence. When I see "prophecies" about the last pope being named :"Petrus" I just dismiss them.

There is something to be said about being made in God's image, God Who is Three Dimensional, yet One.

When we isolate the Son, it would seem fitting that the Alpha and Omega characteristic of the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity be necessarily reflected in the life of the Church He builds.

This is exactly what we see in the prophecy of St. Malachy which was given unto Innocent II in the twelfth century.

It's not a prophecy, its a forgery. It may contain some uncanny parallels with a veneer of truth, but I don't accept them as legitimate.

I do not believe that Malachy's prophecy is legitimate although I used to believe it was.

Same here. What changed my mind was doing some READING. The Church has NEVER endorsed Malachy's prophecy as valid. But some people don't want to READ, they want SENSATIONALISM.

It has been noticed concerning Petrus Romanus, who according to St. Malachy's list is to be the last pope, that the prophecy does not say that no popes will intervene between him and his predecessor designated Gloria olivæ. It merely says that he is to be the last, so that we may suppose as many popes as we please before "Peter the Roman".

As a Catholic, we are not to interpret prophecy. The Church is the one that does that for us. It is the Holy Spirit that reveals how to read scripture; and it is the Church that the Holy Spirit has sanctified; and it is us who are sanctified by the Church. We are all of one body with Christ, the Lord, as our head.
