I don’t actually agree with that, since I believe we have what people call ‘the Holy Spirit’ at birth. We just also have free will which allows us to ignore this connection to the Lord. And we all choose to do it since we listen to the flesh and the world before listening to the Lord.
Take Genesis. Although I cannot relate to this story in its literal sense, I can point out that Adam was directly united with the Lord upon creation. His free will choice of disobedience and subsequent repentance did not alter what was there originally.

A scripture comes to mind. Matthew 18:6 and also Genesis 1:27 I trust that Matthew 18:6 is actually referring to a small child and not so much someone who is new to the faith in Jesus. So, I agree that a newborn is closer to God than the Pope ever is.

Excellent verse. I actually never caught that meaning before, but it makes perfect sense now.
    Thanks for that.

I don’t believe the Lord is ‘against’ anyone, ever.
The Lord is ONLY for everyone.
I can only conclude that you have a different God than I.

Or, he doesn't know what against means.

    2 Corinthians 3:6. ESV
He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant-not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
    NLT version
He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.

I wrote this earlier, but didn’t get a response.
    I’ll try again.
I was wondering how faithofchristian understands this verse.

The Lord I understand and know from what I read in the Bible is perfect love. (Mercy, kindness, forgiveness, joy, peace, happiness). It’s illogical for this kind of entity to be ‘against’

Do you have any idea or clue why God gave us Free Will ?

God gave us Free Will, to chose between good and evil.

If a person chooses to do evil, then they will suffer the consequences of what evil has to offer them.

If a person chooses to do good then they will receive the things that good has to offer them
God gave us the free will to chose between doing good and doing evil.

That if a person chooses to do evil, then they take what ever evil has to offer them,
To do evil then evil offers death to those who do evil.

If a person chooses to do good, then they take whatever good has to offer them.
To do good, then good offers life eternal.

It's your life of free will, to choose evil or good. Then depending on which one you chose by your free will, then you take what each one has to offer.

It's better to know what each one stands for and has to offer, before picking one of them blindly.

It's like this, a person was walking and came upon a snake, and the snake said, do not worry I will not bite you, and the person pick the snake up, and stated to walk. And when the person went pet the snake, the snake bit them, and the person said to the snake, you told me will not to worry you will not bite me and the snake said to them, you knew exactly that I was a snake before you pick me up ?

Your comment illuminates how you see the world.

I’ll tell you how I have seen it.
I have petted snakes without being bitten.
I have petted my pet birdies (the ones I love, and feed, and care for) and yet they all bite me.:p

Now, I’ll pose another question for you to ignore.;)

In your comment above you said God gave us free will.
What else did God give us, only as pertaining to your comment above regarding free will and choice? If anything.

Look, when a child is little, they have more faith in God, then adults have.

When you were little did you ever wonder why your here and what's the reason your here for.
So children are aware they came from somewhere. But they do not remember where or why they are here.

As it is most adults still do not know, where they came from or why they are here.

This may pertain to our discussion.

    Matthew 13:10-17

The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?" 11He replied, "Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13This is why I speak to them in parables: "Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. 14In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: "'You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. 15For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.' 16But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it

I especially like verse 12. I have experienced it.

Well it seems your very slow in picking up illustrations.

The whole purpose of the snake story, was to illustrate how evil works.
Evil comes innocent, but under neath it's bite is venomous.that will destroy anything that gets in it's way.

People seem not to realize this, until it's to late. That's why it's better to understand the difference between evil and good. Before you pick either one up.

The path of evil leads to death.
The path of good leads to eternal life.

So God gave us the free will to choose between them.
God also gave us the free will to search out for ourselves to find out the difference between Good and evil.

But it's not a very apt metaphor to begin with. For starters it doesn't line up with reality, making it too far fetched. A snake will not actually bite a person just for petting it. Most species of snakes are pretty docile. There are aggressive species of course. But even then adult snakes will often dry bite a person as a warning. Baby snakes might not because they haven't yet learned how to control their venom. A snake actually does not bite a person out of malice or just coz. We're too big to be prey and such an act is actually wasteful. They usually only bite a person out of self defence. Hardly an evil act.
And even if they do bite you just for petting it, how is that illustrative of an evil act? A snake's "purpose" is to bite things. Unless they are a constricter.
It is merely doing its job.
Is evil in this scenario just doing its job? Then how is it evil?

Perhaps you are thinking of the Aesop tale The Scorpion and the frog?
But then again the moral of that tale is we cannot fight our own nature.

Look have you tried to pet the king cobra. Try petting it and see what happens.

Try petting a rattle snake and see what happens.
Even a garden snake will bite you.

therefore the illustration of the snake stands.

It’s scary how people with eyes can be so blind.
    And lost.
