Does Jesus ever mention love, in the Bible, or is love Paul's invention? Where in the four gospels does it mention love?

The Gospel of Matthew records Jesus' answer: "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" (22:37-39). :D

I was taught, as a kid, the neighbor in this context meant whoever is next to or across from you at any given time.
