If those religions are oppressive, and the discovery of life reveals that oppression so that the oppressed open their eyes and see their condition then yes. Otherwise no.Would the discovery of life on other planets disprove most conventional religions??

Whats is the purpose of millions of galaxies and planets etc then??No. And I do believe that there is life on other planets. And I hope we prove it in my lifetime. Very exciting prospect. I don't view that as a threat to my belief in God at all.
I loved that movie, and am glad I stumbled upon it and decided to check it out.Contact came out 20 years ago (wow I feel old) and essentially the entire movie's argument was that God probably did not 'waste so much space' by making humans the only thing in the cosmos.
Oh yeah, I'm sure there'll be a small subset of people who will get all sorts of riled up about it in a negative way, religious or not. Of course, it all depends on how sentient aliens present themselves to us. Maybe Hawking is right and aliens will indeed be a threat to the beliefs and very existence of everyone.I loved that movie, and am glad I stumbled upon it and decided to check it out.
Now, unfortunately, some Christian denominations do believe in aliens, sort of, but they will insist they are actually demons.
While that is certainly possible, I tend to think that perhaps we shouldn't use ourselves as the measuring stick of what alien life might be like. Seems rather anthropocentric, if you ask me.Maybe Hawking is right and aliens will indeed be a threat to the beliefs and very existence of everyone.
Would it also be anthropocentric to think the traits are unique to humans? While that is certainly possible, I tend to think that perhaps we shouldn't use ourselves as the measuring stick of what alien life might be like. Seems rather anthropocentric, if you ask me.

Aren't all the confirmed UFO sightings enough proof?Would the discovery of life on other planets disprove most conventional religions??
