Little green men

are you kidding? the Catholics and Protestants would be the first swapping their stance and be trying to convert the new found life.

If by 'conventional' we mean Abrahamic, I think most of them have become comfortable enough with the idea of the possibility sentient life in the universe to have adjusted their world view and come to terms with that possibility.
Contact came out 20 years ago (wow I feel old) and essentially the entire movie's argument was that God probably did not 'waste so much space' by making humans the only thing in the cosmos.

Would the discovery of life on other planets disprove most conventional religions??
If those religions are oppressive, and the discovery of life reveals that oppression so that the oppressed open their eyes and see their condition then yes. Otherwise no.

No. And I do believe that there is life on other planets. And I hope we prove it in my lifetime. Very exciting prospect. I don't view that as a threat to my belief in God at all.

Whats is the purpose of millions of galaxies and planets etc then??

I think it'd be enlightening and humbling to see a technologically advanced species come to earth, learn about some of our religions, and respond with "Seriously? You really believe this entire universe was created just for you and its fate hinges entirely on the actions of your species? Har, har, har!!!!"

I loved that movie, and am glad I stumbled upon it and decided to check it out.
Now, unfortunately, some Christian denominations do believe in aliens, sort of, but they will insist they are actually demons.

Oh yeah, I'm sure there'll be a small subset of people who will get all sorts of riled up about it in a negative way, religious or not. Of course, it all depends on how sentient aliens present themselves to us. Maybe Hawking is right and aliens will indeed be a threat to the beliefs and very existence of everyone.

While that is certainly possible, I tend to think that perhaps we shouldn't use ourselves as the measuring stick of what alien life might be like. Seems rather anthropocentric, if you ask me.

No, scripture is fairly silent on it. If we find naked green men picking berries we'll know they didn't eat the fruit.

Aren't all the confirmed UFO sightings enough proof?

There are so many of a kind that clearly cannot be human, even from military sources. You may never be able to verify a planet with the distances we are talking about.
