The companies polluting the planet have spent millions to make you think carpooling and recycling will save us

"But at this point, personal lifestyle changes will not turn the climate crisis around. A report from the International Energy Agency, which lays out a path to a net-zero-emissions energy system by 2050, estimates that individual behavioral changes would only account for about 4% of the necessary reductions.

To have even a 50% chance of stopping the world's temperature from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius, according to a study published this month, 90% of coal and 60% of oil and gas reserves must stay in the ground."

So in other words we have to try to stop money hungry companies from digging for profit?

    We are so doomed

This is why we need a Green New Deal.

I wholeheartedly agree. But does the deal also help out miners who rely on the coal industry? As much as I’m for reducing climate change, I don’t want to leave families destitute at the same time.

There's also social changes. Like cruises, private jets, and lots of excessive travel. Those are major polluters. But they aren't getting their due criticism. Like the politicians telling us we have to give up petro cars but aren't giving up private jets to international meetings that could happen digitally.

I see it this way, some will need to change employment or everyone will suffer

Again I agree with this. But as much of a filthy leftist I am, I acknowledge that I live in a capitalist society. So I think we need to incentivise change in employment as well. Invest in other industries and help miners find and develop other skills.

These people could be retrained and transition to a new line of work (and that should be part of the deal). It may not be easy, but it is possible.

Something could be set up to help them get training for a new trade, but they will have to take advantage of it. I live in a paper mill town whose mill has been struggling for years with workers who have spent their lives working there. There was a program set up with a local community college to provide them with free training in a program of their choice, and only one or two people took advantage of it (according to a friend of mine working as a facilitator for the program).

Industries sometimes have to adapt or die. But I do think social programs can be set up to help ease transitions. Unfortunately, conservatives have spent decades decrying the "nanny state."

Absolutely these things need to change. The cruise and airline industry are massive polluters.

Hey, less of the filthy, im pretty left myself...;-)

I was a kid when Maggie Thatcher killed the british mining industry, whole towns became destitute slums and/or mostly abandoned, i would not want to see that on a worldwide scale. So yes, job creation (decent jobs) needs looking at.

Kind of like picking up litter on the highways because the trash always comes back.
The on going getting rid of the litter does Not stop nor gets rid of the litter bugs.
Those ' littering ' traits go on and on and on.......
Earth Not only needs to be protected from litter bugs but since the 'Industrial Revolution' Earth needs to be protected from people.
Man's global problems are detrimental to man and animals besides nature.
Human mismanagement of No self control (having Not the ability and without the proper desire) man has made any solution from a human standpoint impossible.
Thankfully, Revelation 11:18 B informs us that God will bring to ruin those ruining the Earth.

It has been evident to all that the initial response to covid was a national lock down and during that time there was an noted improvement in the air quality due to the lack of vehicles on the road.

Yup. We as consumers can only do so much. It reveals a great deal of the "let someone else handle it" mentality. Like how cruises were treated as something that had to return post covid, despite their numerous issues, especially environmental. But everybody else can act to make up the difference.

My unpopular opinion is people should have to apply to fly. There are some places that have to be flown to, but even then people overuse it.

I know a few people who fall into the 'wealthy' category who use the airline like an Uber, simply for personal pleasure. There is no reason for the vast majority of us to be on three different continents in one weekend. If there was some regulation, we could cut back on the amount of planes we have in the sky.

And you'll have to forgive me, but I find cruises to be frivolous.

'Excessive travel problem' makes me think of 'putting air in a flat tire' which does Not solve the problem.
Putting a bandage on the problem does Not get to the root cause of the problem.
In Scripture we find man's 'world of problems' is Satan's project ( aka corruption ).
How does one change from having a un-sound mind to having a sound mind __________
The real cause of a flat tire, etc. has to first be eliminated.
History shows that man has taken on a broader spectrum of issues: environment (Earth Day) AIDS, etc. such BIG issues with No man-made solutions and as Luke 21:11 says there will be pestilences.......
So, there will Not be a man-made solution but what is foretold at Isaiah 11:3-4; Revelation 19:14-15.
God will the the One who will bring ruin to those ruining the Earth - Revelation 11:18 B.

Fortunately a lot of us don't rely on ancient superstitions to take care of things.

Don't ask for forgiveness over it. That sort of travel are top polluters, even worse than cars.
