That video is a red herring fallacy.
    Couldn't resist being logical, sorry...

A red herring is a logical fallacy in which irrelevant information is presented alongside relevant information, distracting attention from that relevant information. This may be done intentionally or unintentionally. A red herring is often used in movies, television and literature.

It is also, though you seem not to have noticed, quite funny and very apt.

It's not a red herring. It's pointing out hypocrisy. It's drawing attention to those who have the nerve to dare call themselves "pro life" and harp on about how life is precious but then frequently do an about face by promoting wars, the death penalty, cutting welfare, cutting education, slashing at programs that reduce harm and condemn those who don't conform to their standards.

I did notice that. If used for that purpose, fine, but if used to deflect, it is a red herring.

    It can be both.
If used to deflect from the relevant issue of when life begins it is a red herring.

Yes I thought maybe it ought to be in the joke section. Satire.
Fair enough, a satirical view of the pro-life position but not an attempt to seriously understand it.

For anyone interested in an argument from an actual pro-life advocate.

That isn't the issue it was addressing.

I've hit a point where I'm not interested. It denies autonomy to the woman; it claims ownership of her life, her uterus, and whatever grows within; it denies her the right to chose her own path for herself and lets someone else make that choice for her.
And then, of course, they need to start acting like they are pro-life because it's nasty misnomer because this group (especially in America) frequently is not prolife once we aren't a fetus anymore.

II don't think you know how to use that fallacy. Can you be specific as to what is a red herring and why?

    Jesus never mentioned computers.
Maybe you and I are committing sin right now as we speak. Errr type.

I’ve still seen folk extrapolate and justify their banning using His words though. How interesting
    (Amish, for instance.)

Although my favourite has to be those against video games. Jesus never mentions them yet He’s always cited by folks opposing them. Weird

A red herring is something that misleads or distracts from a relevant or important issue.[1] It may be either a logical fallacy or a literary device that leads readers or audiences towards a false conclusion. A red herring might be intentionally used, such as in mystery fiction or as part of rhetorical strategies (e.g. in politics), or it could be inadvertently used during argumentation. Red herring - Wikipedia

The relevant or important issue is whether life is precious, which is the underpinning argument for the pro-life argument, and all that other mumbo-jumbo on that video is a red herring because it distracts from the relevant or important issue.

No, not quite. The phrase "life is precious" was used facetiously. It is what the Republicans claim but what their actions refute. All of those examples were policies that Republicans tend to support and show that for them life really is not precious. So no red herrings, only satire.

Ok, that's true. It was satire, not a red herring.
