Plastic Bags to Be Banned in New York State

I seem to remember plastic bags coming on the scene in the day because of the destruction of forests and the habitation of animals buy liberal environmentalists and tree hugging sympathizers. All those hippie days.......

Of course in the People's Republic of New York, it's fine to return to paper bags for "ahem" a $0.05 paper bag fee. Which of course I'm sure we'll go to the 'appropriate' end-user of said fees.

Of course I'll have to dig out my soiled and dirty grocery bag that was laying under that pile of moldy rags in the corner of my garage all these years.

I can't wait to see my fellow comrades at the grocery store to see who wins the most disgusting bag contest while waiting in the breadline as the spores and viruses from everyone's filthy bags permeate the grocery store air and make everybody sick and contaminate the food.

    I use reusable bags.
    Many others do.
    I've never noticed a problem.

It's probably will be, once a considerable amount more of those bags walk in the door. In fact that will be my 'prophecy' for the future of the People's Republic of New York from a health perspective.

It's definitely going to have an impact based on how many groceries you can carry. People are going to start noticing if paper bags are going to be used and end up being charged for it. I'm sure number of them will certainly curtail their purchases to avoid those types of fees which could add up considerably over the course of the year.

It's just the People's Republic of New York way of instituting a new tax as well as controlling the purchasing behavior of its so-called citizens because there seems to be a lot of pleasure from the elites controlling people. Makes them feel important.

Meh I switched to a cloth fiber set of bags years ago. Completely washable. I am more worried about consumers touching food items they do not buy than my bags. Heck places like London Drugs up here give out the bags for free.

You seem to think that that's a bad thing.

You're complaining about a tax to "encourage" people to reuse their bags instead of throwing it away.

After years of use, we know now how plastic can affect the environment.

And you somehow blame it on the left. Not everything is political.

There are places in the ocean where plastics are threatening all sorts of sea life. Doesn't it make sense to try to limit the damage that we do?

Pfft we already did that. No ones shopping has decreased. People just try to keep a cloth bag in the car or at least a reusable one. Haven’t really noticed any difference, except less rubbish. How terrible?

Can't say that's whats going on here in California. Myself, as an Aldi shopper (and another thrift store chain that sometimes doesn't have bags to give) I got used to it and found it to be so much less of a hassle when you reuse bags and don't have tons of plastic bags accumulating. I just keep a couple bags in my car, buy my stuff, and carry it or wheel it to my car and bag it if I need to.
Anymore, I just do not at all see or understand the point of having thousands of bags at each store just sitting around and ending up in a dump (if it makes it there) after barely being used. It's so much less messy without them.

It's not about the environment or some other noble-sounding cause. It has everything to do with exercising more control and power coupled with the raising of state 'revenue'.

It's entirely the socialist left who's responsible btw, so yes, its political.

Want to know something funny? I actually agree with you on a personal level.

It's the compulsory component that takes people who don't share that sentiment and jackboot them in whichever direction is desired by the elites controlling the People's Republic of New York that I have issue with.

Plastic in general is terrible for the environment, and plastic bags are especially bad because there are so many of them. Overall, they barely get used, at all. Overall, they are pretty much wasted resources. We can easily make better alternatives, cheap alternatives, alternatives that are reusable and aren't leaving micro-deposits that are even found in life even deep in the Marianna Trench.

Do remember, we had rivers catching fire until some "compulsory components" were introduced to regulate pollution. Plastic bag pollution is really no different, and they are a tremendous waste of resource and contributor to pollution. Overall, I'd say pollution and wasting resources are only thing they are good for. Unless they are made really thick and with the intention of reuse, they even suck at being bags.

Luckily for the rest of us...
People as old as you seem to be will probably die off soon.

The rest of us will bring our own totes and boxes when we go shopping. Or pay what it costs to get all that plastic crap out of the world we all have to live in.
How much do you suppose it costs to get a plastic bag out of the ocean?

I don't see any Republicans backing this.

New York nears plastic-bag ban and a fee for paper bags

Come to think of it, I don't see any Republicans passing plastic bag bans in any states.

Looks like you recently took your Joy pill today. ;0)

Just another frog being slowly boiled in the frying pan. Eh?

It's not about the bag issue specifically, it's about people's (and businesses) freedom to choose.

But I suppose for you, It's long live the People's Republic of New York.

Glad I won't live that long to see you being controlled from head to toe on how to live your own life dictated by Chairman Cumo's successor. Or by your own particular Socialist People's Republic Chairman respectively.
