A Lace Monitor that was in the park down the road from me, it was a bit over 5 feet from nose to tip of tail. The local birds weren't very happy with him hanging about. The pictures are taken from a video so they're not the best quality.

And a couple of Tawny Frogmouths that were a few trees over. Hopefully they don't become lizard food.

Yes, perhaps it's just a very sharp shadow - the sort you get in Australian light but not very often in Britain.
