Or that it can happen any time, any place, and that such hate and ignorance exists. The truly sad thing is that, that is not Christianity any more than Islam is what's reported in the media. Just after 9/11 I sat in a waiting room next to a Muslim woman with her small children. She was in full black dress head to toe (face uncovered though). The tv was on showing the images of the attacks. She had tears running down her face, motioned to the tv and said "... but that is not our religion!" I felt badly for her. I hope they catch whoever desecrated the temple and throw the book at them.

Excellent. Now, trying to refrain from adharmic prayers...

This is deeply saddening. To defame a murti is reprehensible. I hope the perpetrator will one day understand the seriousness of this crime.

Kids will be kids, but actually going in takes it too far. We had teenage neighbours at the temple here a few years back. They came in to the yard, sat on the benches and lit up their cigarettes to look cool in that rebellious way. The priest asked them to leave. The door got egged around the same time. I washed it off. The worst was a rock through the window. We have video surveillance and a sign about it now. That helps.

My fear for Americans is more nutcases with guns.

Fanaticism anywhere shows the extreme dualistic distinctions caused by religious frameworks which were originally designed to unite in love rather than propagate divisiveness in hatred.

I am an advaitist Hindu and a strong atheist.
Sad, but uneducated, influenced by drugs, broken families, surviving on social security, nothing much else to do.
