People 'unaccounted for' after major volcano eruption off New Zealand

Some of our site members are in New Zealand. Currently about 100 people are unaccounted for, mostly tourists I gather.

I'm sure they will be. The locals don't usually do these tours and the chances are minuscule anyway.

The article suggests that increased activity was noticed as long ago as June.

I'm not sure what to make of that, at least in the sense of culpability. But let's face it. The sort of people who go strolling across a volcano tend to win Darwin Awards anyway.
