It seems like we measure the passage of time these days by the passing of celebrities and cultural icons.


In a community time is often measured by the deaths of those that you know. "It was just last year that Aunt Phyllis died". For a wide and disparate group one needs to go to celebrities, political figures and other cultural icons to have this connection.

And thinking of these icons, eg, Tom Wolfe, James Garner,
they meant more to me than some in my immediate family.
Sure, they never knew me. But that matters not.
