I've become partially blinded

I hope and pray your sight returns. I am concerned you may have had a small stroke or a blood clot that effected your sight suddenly. Yes, see a doctor as soon as possible.

I was wondering that too...

Okay, now I'm scared.

...I think direct sunlight could do that too though.

I was on my patio this morning, and the sun was coming in and out of the rain clouds, when the light suddenly beamed on me very hard to my left... I was in the middle of a post, so I turned my swivel patio chair to the right, and the sun beamed off my cell phone and went directly into my right eye.

I became instantly blinded in my right eye, and became dizzy, standing up, and almost fell to the ground.

I ran inside screaming: I'm blind, I'm blind, and I am still having vision problems right now, about 10 hours later.

Will I regain my sight?
I suggest wearing some sunglasses for a while, spending time in darkness and avoid looking at computer screens for a few days. Seriously I do, because solar retinopathy is often painless but can result in blindness. Your retina is flooded with light and releases too many communication chemicals at once, and these can damage your vision. Give your eyes time to clean up the mess. You may also be hurting yourself by not going to an ophthalmologist. They do see people on an emergency basis, and maybe they have got a treatment to help mitigate any damage.

Okay, now I'm scared.

Have you made an appointment with a doctor yet ?
Don’t delay.
In Melbourne we have an eye hospital with walk-in emergency department.
Maybe you do where you live ?
But just get medical advice now.
Don’t make any excuses, this may be serious.

Go to a doctor. I don't want even someone that I quite often disagree with become blind. If it is retinal detachment I would think that the sooner that you get it treated the quicker your road to recovery. Retinas can be reattached. But probably not if you do not get to see a doctor soon. This is a time to visit the ER.

In real ER cases they do take you in right away. I know from personal experience. Here is some good news for you, if you go to the ER and they make you wait that means it is not that it is not that serious.

Hope you can read this..Your sight will probably return but go to an optician or doctor for a checkup.

I have to echo the suggestions to see an opthamologist as soon as possible. If it's a detached retina, prompt treatment can be key. Plus from what I've heard, laser technology has really made a lot of progress for eye treatment, so hopefully the doctors will be able to help.

Best wishes! Please keep us posted.

Speaking as one who did go blind in one eye due to a detached retina
Go to an doctor and get checked ASAP
I ended up in surgery for reattachment

hopefully it is nothing but the longer you wait the worse it gets if you have what I had

If you don't mind my asking, did the surgery help you regain sight in that eye? I hope it did.

I have had 2 detached retina incidents in my right eye.

1) was a total detachment and they did not expect me to regain much sight. The froze it back on that time. It came back to almost 20/20 but there was always some sort of anomaly in what I saw with that eye, there were no straight lines. But over time that started to correct itself. The docs said it was a miracle I could see at all.

2) While on vacation in Norway. This was a partial detachment in a different area of the retina, reattached with laser. The vision has never come back correctly, I can see out of that eye, but it sees things differently than the left eye. Everything the right eye sees is a bit blurry and larger than what the left eye sees. Generally, when I want to see something clearly I close my right eye. I also read computers screens with my right eye closed.

I appreciate everyone's concerns, but I failed to follow everyone's advice, and just waited it out. I'm scared of doctors.

So my eye felt itchy this morning, but now, I think I'm about back to normal. No splotches in my sight anymore. :)

...I'm happy that the body seems mostly self-healing. For my own sake, and for others like me who avoid doctors.

Good that you are on the mend but your eyes are important, visit a specialist eye doctor to rule out long term effects such as cataracts

More than likely just a vitreous detachment then.

They could have told you, it is not a scary process.
