It is written in the Quran that Allah created the whole universe in 6 days.
As an agnostic myself I have always compared this with the most accepted scientific theories and come to the conclusion that based on these theories Islam and Allah are false and just a man-created religion.
Science establishes that the Big Bang happened about 13.8 billion years ago.
Earth appeared in the universe about 4.5 billion years ago.
Humans about 120 thousand years ago.
So you see right there there is no match at all.
Muslims are known for finding an extra context in everything and coming up with an explanation for everything no matter how illogical and ridiculous these explanations are.
The most common explanation here is that a day in the Quran doesn't mean a 24-hour day but some argue that it could be a 1 thousand year period.
Others go further and say that a day in the Quran could be a 50-thousand-year period.
Needless to say that the miracle of the six-day creation loses all the miracle magic when you have to keep patching the meaning of it to make it more credible for the more educated people nowadays.

Recently another twist to the story came to my attention that dismantles a lot of the scholar's amendments to the meaning of the day periods.
Here is the hadith with reference information.

Sahih Muslim
In-book reference
Book 52, Hadith 10
Reference
Hadith 2789
USC-MSA web (English) reference
Book 39, Hadith 6707

Abu Huraira reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) took hold of my hands and said:
Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, created the clay on Saturday and He created the mountains on Sunday and He created the trees on Monday and He created the things entailing labour on Tuesday and created light on Wednesday and He caused the animals to spread on Thursday and created Adam (peace be upon him) after 'Asr on Friday; the last creation at the last hour of the hours of Friday, i. e. between afternoon and night. This hadith is narrated through another chain of transmitters.

That is very specific, isn't it?
Prophet Muhammad calls each day by its name and each day is followed by the next in a continuous succession of 6 days.
What do you say?
After all the Holy Quran meant 6 24-hour days after all.
Now, what is the context of all these Muslims?
Can you explain it?

Another correction:
On this hadith actually, there were not 6 days but 7 as it goes from Saturday to Friday.
Go figure.

: informative::

I've not read much of the Qur'an but have read the bible several times. Creating living things (trees, plants etc) before creating light makes it all fall down for me.

Copied: measure of a day in the quran:
In one case, the measure of a day is equated with 50,000 years (70:4), whereas another verse states that "a day in the sight of your Lord is like 1,000 years of your reckoning" (22:47). The word "youm" is thus understood, within the Qur'an, to be a long period of time -- an era or eon.
