Is This Acceptable?

Well, I thought you were going that way when you said: "You need a lot more for it to be a religion."

And your religion HAS a lot more. A whole lot more. All those things I listed and Catechisms and Magesteriums and Imprimaturs and Missals and catacombs and Stations of the Cross and gold chalices and purple and scarlet clothes and candles and relics, jewel encrusted skeletons, and on and on.

Why are you bothering me?

Random but serious question...

Is creating your own religion (but not a God) acceptable? Here are some examples of what I mean:

1. One must not use foul language at themselves or others.
2. One must not create conflict. (i.e. create drama, instigate fights, etc)
3. One must be selfless.

You know, something like that? Kind of like creating your own belief system to follow. Some may actually fit in an existing religion, but sometimes people don't 100% belief in said religion. For example, I believe in somethings that are in the Christian bible, but a lot of it I disagree with. Therefore, I cannot be a Christian.

I am not sure if I'm making any sense, but I really hope you all understand what I'm trying to get at.
Sounds like good principles to live by :)

These are great principles.

But isn't that exactly what Jesus was saying?

You make perfect sense. We all have our own conscience = believe-system

Why are you bothering me?

All I wanted to know in the first place is what you had in mind when you said, "You need a lot more for it to be a religion."

My question was: Like what?

You made a factual sounding statement, which you didn't qualify as being your opinion (and which apparently is a reportable offense here according to some), and I'd like to know what you think she needs a lot more of for her beliefs to be a religion. So far, you haven't said.

It's my belief that she already has her own religion.

Great points everyone. However, the ones I've listed are only examples...not my real ideas. Also, I am NOT a follower of Jesus. I do not believe in him. However, some things mentioned in the bible are agreeable to an extent. That does not mean I believe nor follow this Jesus guy.

My point is, if someone was to walk up to you and ask you "what is your religion" and you answer with "one I've made up", is that necessarily correct? In a sense, it may cause unnecessary arguments. I was just wondering how something like this may work if someone did create their own...religion? However, every time I think about "creative religion", Charles Manson comes to mind. However, he convinced his followers that he WAS God.

After all, this is just a curious topic... not one that I'm actually considering. Thanks for the replies everyone!

You could've just asked in the first place instead of making stupid passive aggressive attacks on my religion. I know you hate Catholicism and you have something against me. So you can buzz off.

Just say you have your own beliefs. A lot of people do. Probably not best to say you've made it up since that sounds strange.

That would sound strange....I'll admit that. But what if someone was extremely devoted to whatever they made up and felt the need to tell someone they made it up? (the things I randomly think about...)

Yes, it's fine, imo.

In a sense, it may cause unnecessary arguments.

Whose problem is that? [/QUOTE]

Well, I guess it's okay if it's someone you know and who would understand. I wouldn't say it to just anyone, though.

I see. So when you say factually, "You need a lot more for it to be a religion."

And when someone asks, "Like what?," you feel you can violate the same rules you threatened me with, is that right?

Saint Frankenstein said:
"Let me remind you of Rule 8 of the forum:
"8. Preaching/Proselytizing
...Stating opinions as a definitive matter of fact (i.e., without "I believe/feel/think" language, and/or without references) may be moderated as preaching."
So I recommend you stop that right now or I'll start reporting you."

"H3ather" would work I think. You have "heathen", "Paganism". So maybe "H3atherism". There are hundreds already, people won't notice 1 extra.
