Let's suppose, for the sake of argument, that in late June the decision of SCOTUS on abortion is delivered, and it is substantially the same as the leaked document penned by Justice Alito. (Presumably including the arguments based on 400 year old jurists who just happened to believe in witches empowering evil spirits in the world). What will they aim for next?

I believe that the religious right thinks itself "on a roll," and that if you are not a heterosexual, cis-gender God-fearer, they are coming for you. So far as I can tell, they have never been shy about making this intention perfectly clear, even though many weren't paying attention.

Thinks like same-sex marriage, the right to make love to the consenting individual of your choice, the right not to have to "join us in prayer," and many more, I believe, will all soon be under threat, because the Religious Right is now smelling blood, and it is hugely energizing for them.

For the record, I voted "yes." I truly believe that the Religious Right has never gotten over the fact that men can marry men and women can marry women, that sex doesn't have to be done with a sheet with a small hole between the couple -- and that pedophiles are running everything and only the Donald can save them.

I say it's a mistake to pursue your line of argument.
It doesn't recognize their perspective, which means
that you'll never counter their argument in any way
that would ring true to them. Liberals also argue
that it's just an attack on women.
From the anti-abortion perspective, they're protecting
a civil right, ie, the right to life of a fetus. I don't agree
    with them, but I understand.

I voted <don't know>...the closest option to my answer.

I think he is asking if their perspective is to stop others having a perspective. Like a Jew in Warsaw in the 1940's recognising the "perspective" of Himmler.

I recognise they have a right to have a perspective, I'm just not obliged to agree with it, or simply roll over and let them take away civil rights. Though I live in the UK, so these appalling laws won't impact people here. I feel desperately sorry for women who fall under their influence.

Near term targets: gay marriage, sexual reassignment surgery.

The right as opposed to specifically the religious rights: pro-censorship, attacking the right to vote especially blacks and Hispanics, Social Security and Medicare, anything government does for the poor and more.

Ditto, and I have no doubt they'll push an agenda to go after more rights.

Lol, that's a Crock. The right wants more freedom, not less.
BTW a baby being free to be born is a basic human right.

Sorry, I remember too much history, like Proposition 8 in California in 2008, the literally endless efforts by Christian establishments (in your country and mine) to disallow any rights at all to people like me. I fought those battles, and I'm happy to say we've won some. But I know that there are still many harbouring in pectore their desire to come back and fight another day, and beat us "heathen perverts." It doesn't stop, they don't stop, and when we let our guard down, they'll be waiting to take advantage.

I flatly disagree. The right wants their own freedom to tell everybody else how to live. They want the freedom to take away other people's freedoms -- a zero sum game. The right does not value my freedom to love my partner, and consider myself married to him. The right does not value my freedom to refuse to swear on a Bible.

And what a ridiculous suggestion, "a baby being free to be born!" Nature itself blasts that out of the water far more often than you probably realize. In fact, it may well be the case that more successful fertilizations terminate than result in a successful, live birth. New Research Shows Most Human Pregnancies End in Miscarriage

Witch-burning, perhaps. But only as long as they weigh the same as a duck.

    I disagree with them to.
But I don’t see them with the evil motives so often ascribed to them.

But if any other religious group wanted their views put in government, the fundamentalists would be the first to try to shut that down.

Hopefully the US Congress will get on the ball and prevent anything like that. If not, I'd suppose we'd only have the voters to blame.

I disagree. There's the (upcoming) argument about "court packing," which some think the Democrats might try -- but it was the absolute mendacity of Mitch McConnell who was "court packing" at the end of Obama's 2nd term (10 months left, not enough time to get Merrick Garland on the court), and at the end of Trump's first term (40 days was a perfectly adequate amount of time to get Amy Coney Barrett in there).

Everybody can pretend all they like that this was not blatant hypocrisy, but it is, and it is nothing but.

Hell is emptier because McConnell is still in the Senate.

I don't really see the OP as ascribing evil motives to them.

    Just ignorance.

    In my opinion.

So why do they have a history of opposing gay marriage, cannabis legalization, atheists holding office, public displays of non-christian religions, flag burning, gambling, sex work, and adult entertainment?
