No, it should not be a crime. Is it stupid to burn any book ... absolutely. It is taking a trick right from the Nazi handbook. No books should ever be burned!! But, it can't be a crime.

Oh, I don't know. In principle I agree but would not shed a tear if all books from Scientology were tossed onto a happy bonfire. That's the makings of a sweet party there! :D From an ecological standpoint it might be more efficient to run them through a huge wood chipper and then dump 'em into a landfill.

I believe it is, in general, a bad idea to burn books we do not like.

They could be used for wrapping fish, instead, or for other more useful things.

Well, that is a possibility. And if the paper they are made of is not too hard, there are even more possibilities.

and other possibilities if the paper is ultra downy soft. :)

Personally, back to the OP, I think it falls under the same category that allows one to burn the national flag is they so desire.

My cat targeted my copy for some odd reason. Maybe I shouldn't have left it near her cat nip. ;)

Of course. And by the way, that has nothing to do with racial crime or with anything racial whatsoever. Since when, has Islam anything to do with race?

It would be like saying that Bosnians are actually arabs, or North Africans. Same with Indonesians.

I voted "No" and I mean it. But we should also consider that cheap confrontation is not exactly useful.

Granted I am no longer a Christian but if I was I would far rather people burned the Bible as a form of confrontation than blow up children, mow innocent people down on the streets and attack them with knives or petrol bombs, etc.

Just because Nazis did something, that doesn't necessarily make it wrong.
Book burning can be a statement of religious or political protest, just like burning flags or bras.

For one thing it can't be a racial issue since Muslims are not a race.

It should not be illegal to act like an asinine ignorant hate-filled ******* when it comes to one's own property.

Here in the US the right wing was up in arms over flag burning and wanted a constitutional amendment outlawing it which to me is the same order of thing. In fact, the current resident of the White House wants to revoke someone's citizenship for burning the American flag.

So hopefully those against burning scripture and flags are united that all such things, whether Quran, Bible, or national flag are all permitted activities.

Definitely not a racial hate crime.
    But...it may be very provocative.

Bras and flags don't bother me. Books are sources of information though. There is no reason to burn them. It is a stupid, useless effort to get attention. There are much better ways of getting attention, so it shows the stupidity of those burning books.

Imo it's got a different connotation. I'd rather any terrible book be open and read aloud, than burned. Prevents entrenched beliefs from going underground, out of sight from the public eye and in a better position to abuse.
Granted I don't think burning books, flags, effigees, whatever should be illegal. But I don't always find it constructive.

You must be good at unhooking them.
Much of political & religous speech is stupid.
    If I burn a book I own, it's speech.
If I burn your book, it's vandalism or even oppression.
